Cheers, im hitting around 68-69c with these settings after a few hours in Prime95. It takes a while for it to get up there. These values are from Core Temp but i get lower temps (65c) in Everest and Real Temp. Are these temps ok?

I tried a Static tRead Value of 6 too and it didnt like it (wouldnt boot) is there any way to get it to 6 or is 7 ok. I was just reading through the memory timing sticky and Merman? seemed to get a good boost in performance of his memory from 7 to 6 to 5.

One other query. Ive set DRAM Voltage to 1.9 in BIOS but Memsets showing 1.8 for some reason?

Thanks for all your help, i realise there loads of other people on this board that need your quite frankly excellent and professional help, and i wont bother you for much longer. I just need some reassuring that these settings are ok and if theres anything else i can do to tighten anything up some more. Im a bit twitchy with it being my first attempt at OC'ing....and my only comp....

    Thanks again Lsd.

Core temp should set your tjmax correctly by itself. Everest and Realtemp must be configured so that is what you see a difference. Those temps are fine for Q6600, could be lower but that is just something you either have to try to work on or get a better cooler or better intake/exhaust fans

6-7 trd will only work with certain memory straps, which he was not using on his P35 board. P45 we have to choose and use one no matter what. So if you want to try to use 6-7 you must use the 333 or 266 straps

Memset only shows what is programmed into your chip, you will have to look in everest, computer, sensors to see the actual value in use. Or in your BIOS PC health section

    Afternoon one and all.

Thought i'd post back in my original Q6600 OC thread and ask a (hopefully simple) question. Bascially i've had my current setup for a few years now and while saving for a whole new pc (mobo, ram, cpu, gpu etc) i thought i'd have a go at pushing this to absolute limit.

I attempted to go from 3.4 to 3.6 by only adjusting the CPU Host Frequency (FSB) to 400 from 378 and increasing the Vcore... but it will not boot...no matter how much Vcore i put on there (ive been upto 1.4625, no higher).

So question, why can't i get to 3.6 when 3.4 is stable? Are there other settings i should be adjusting to get to 3.6? If so, any help would be gratefully received.

My current stable BIOS settings are:-

I find it a bit strange that you need to touch clock skews at this low FSB.
What kind of memory you have(model/part #)?
3.6GHz is high for Q6600 you may need more vcore.

I must admit im not very knowledgeable about overclocking so to get my current OC i took advice of Lsdmeasap from this very thread. He advised me to set the clock skews at there current values and to be honest its worked great for the past few years. Just want to see how far i can push it before an upgrade.

If you think changing those settings or any other may net me a better result then im all ears. :)

I've read that increasing the CPU termination/VTT might help?

Also, ive tried bumping the CPU VCore up in steps all the way to 1.4625 but it just wont post. For my current OC of 3.4ghz the VCore is set at 1.4000.

    Cheers for any help.

Can you run with FSB 400MHz and CPU Ratio 8?
Whe you increase FSB you also increase memory frequency f you stay with the same multiplier.
Try with SMM 2.00D and Static tRead Vamue 8-9 for both channels.
I would also check the possibility to set clock skews to 0 while you still at 378MHz FSB and run an hour or two larg FFT.
The CPU VID range is up to 1.5v so no problem to go above 1.4625v except heat, absolute max vcore is 1.55v.

Ok im booting to Win 7 at 3.6 but it wont run Prime95 (64bit version 266)...

To be able to boot I :-

Increased FSB to 400 up from 378
    Increased Vcore to 1.4250
    Increased VTT to 1.260
Increased MCH Freq Latch to 333 from 266
Changed SMM to 2.40B from 2.50A
Changed Static tRead to 8 from 7

Memory Freq is at 960 so not much higher (up from 945)

Any ideas why Prime95 crashed straight away? It ran fine for hours at 3.4ghz.

Also whats the significance of the Clock Skew? is it better to have it lower? More stable?

    Cheers for your help btw.

MCH Frequency Latch is only a visual grouping feature you can set it auto.
Changing so many parameters at once, which one was the one that did it?
Change SMM to 2.00D to be sure it's not the memory that's in the way. 945 may have been edgy enough.

Clck skews help synching the clock signal arrivel to the CPU and MCH at the same time, normaly only one has to be changed and are usually needed at high frequencies (>400).

If the MCH Latch is just a visual thing I'm fairly certain the 2 setting that did it were:-

Changed SMM to 2.40B from 2.50A
Changed Static tRead to 8 from 7

Though i changed it to 2.00B(or maybe D) which gave a lower Mem Freq of 800 (down from 960) and Prime still failed but on only 1 thread. Temps are 68-69 under load, pretty much the same for when its running at 3.4...

Run small FFT for a start, if still fail increase vcore untill t dosn'ti(up to 1.5v).
Then run large FFT and see how it go.

EDIT Are temps core temps or as reported by EasyTune?
