What is the advantage of using any of the modded BIOS files, which seem to contain updates to LAN or other controller chips?

Are the modded BIOS files any better than updating a system to the latest chip drivers and then using the regular BIOS updates?

^^ Drivers are just for the operating system.

Advantages could be faster read/wright speeds for chipset or better compatibility with newer hardware. Also they could fix issues that drivers could not fix.

So, for example, when I see a modded BIOS with:

Intel RAID ROM 10.1.0.1008 / Realtek LAN ROM 2.37 / Jmicron ROM 1.07.06

this is not the same as installing separately

    Intel RAID 10.1.0.1008 chipset drivers
    Realtek LAN driver 2.37
    JMicron 1.07.06

which I may find on normal download sites??

    Unhappy Re: Gigabyte Latest BIOS

Just wanted to let the "powers that be" know I had a problem with BIOS F11d for the EP45-UD3P (v1.1). When the Intel RAID or ACHI modes are enabled it skipped my HighPoint RAID card boot menu. In addition the drives attached to the HighPoint RAID card do not show up in the BIOS menu like they should. This same problem occurs with the newer F11d modded version. F11c was the last that did not have these issues.
    Best regards,

Latest drivers can be found in post #2 here http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ity-tools.html or you can find them on gigabytes website for your motherboard model.

Thanks, Acwebmxer, but what I am unclear about is whether there is any difference between using the modded BIOS or just installing the latest drivers separately.

    Can anyone please answer this?

    Thanks.

Drivers and BIOS ROM's are nothing alike, and have nothing to do with each other.

If you install the latest drivers you have the latest drivers, that is all.

Same for the BIOS ROM's, if you install the latest you have the latest ROM only, until you also update the drivers.
