    Unhappy Re: Gigabyte Latest BIOS

is there any new BIOS release for X58A-UD3R Rev. 2.0 on it's way?

I've have incompatibly issues with my MB and a Rocketraid 2720 raid card, every raid array I create fails.

Highpoint won't do any new testing with the MB and the Gigabyte reefer to Highpoints compatibility matrix so no testing from their side either. After being a GB customer for over 10 years I think it's time to leave for another brand... :(

Are you trying to use it with Intel RAID enabled? If so try with that disabled and see if it helps.

Do you mean fails to create and work, or just eventually fails?

Here's my issue from another thread at Gigabytes forums:

I've got a big issue with creating (and running) an array with Highpoint Rocketraid 2720 using a Gigabyte X58A-UDR3 motherboard. Almost immediately after creating an array (doesn't matter if it JBOD or RAID5) all the drives in the array fail and goes offline. Have tried both using the Rocketraid bios and the management tool in windows.

After days of troubleshooting (other disks, a new 2720-card, testing RAM, other graphic cards, etc) I tried the card with my old motherboard, GA-P35-DS4, and it worked perfectly. So there is some sort of compatibility issue with the MB. I've tried the raid card in all PCI-E slots but same problem.

This is what the windows event log says:
    Log Name: System
    Source: 272x_1x
    Date: 2011-01-15 23:16:21
    Event ID: 117

    Computer: Raid-PC
    Description:
The driver for device \Device\Scsi\272x_1x1 detected a port timeout due to prolonged inactivity. All associated busses were reset in an effort to clear the condition.

    Log Name: System

    Event ID: 9
    Task Category: None
    LDevel: Error

    User: N/A
    Computer: Raid-PC
    Description:
The device, \Device\Scsi\272x_1x1, did not respond within the timeout period.

Any ideas what to do or is my only option to go looking for another MB?

    My specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Motherboard Model: Gigabyte X58A-UDR3
    System BIOS version: FE
    GPU: Asus GTX470
    System memory size: 12GB KHX1600C9D3K3
    HDD Model: 6 x HDS722020ALA330
    Raid card: Hightpoint Rocketraid 2720 w. BIOS v. 1.2

Thanks, but you didn't answer my questions?

One thing I can think of since your newly added info about P35 is that maybe the new RAID ROM in X58 is what is causing the issue, and you just need to downgrade that back to an older version.

We can verify this by updating a BIOS for your P35 with the latest RAID ROM, then you test and see if it still works with the card or not, if not then it's very likely this is the issue.

I've tried to disable all raid functions in BIOS (Intel and Gigabyte) but I still get problem.
Where can I get RAID ROM to upgrade/downgrade?

You have to modify a BIOS for your board and then risk it not working or messing the board up, that's not normally an issue but I do have to mention it just in case, so it's up to you if you want to try.

I can update a P35-DS4 BIOS for you to test something with, do you have EP35-DS4 or P35-DS4?

I'll make a new BIOS for P35 for you with the latest Intel ROM, and then you test again on P35, and if the new BIOS makes the card fail like on X58 we will know the new ROM is the problem.

Then we can put older ROM into X58 BIOS for you like what is in your P35 now, then it should be ok.

Ok, great. I have a P35-DS4 i think. Have the Rev. 1.0 of the GA-P35-DS4 MB.

    Attach an image from CPU-Z

    Attachment 3236

    Thanks!

Thanks, so that BIOS F12 works fine with the RAID card correct?

I'll make you some test files later today, I can't now as I am about to leave.

Yes it works great with F12.

Thank you again for the help.

Oh, wait my MB is a GA-965P-DS4 v1.0 with Intel P965 Express Chipset.

Ok, so you guys said Gigabyte will still support these recalled boards, yet it's been over a week and no more bios updates. Hmmm........ getting a little worried again.
