You've had a heck of a lot better luck with Gigabyte than I have. I've sent 3 e-mails so far. They're very quick to respond... but their answers to my requests are:

a.) here's the release bios version
(not what I asked for - wanted 13u version that supports VT-d)
b.) EX58-UD5 does not support VT-d and there is no way to enable it
(not true, the 13s referenced in this thread allows it to be configured and VMware responds appropriately)
c.) the 13s referenced has been removed and EX58-UD5 does not support VT-d)

Sounds like they're going to start taking a hard line on this one? Might have to look to other motherboard manufacturers in the future.

I contacted gigabyte for a bios for the Z68MA-D2H-B3 that supports VT-D. They provided me with this:

    https://rapidshare.com/files/3782727672/ad2h3vtd.f8

They assure me that is supports VT-D but i have been unable to get passthrough working in ESXI 5.0
The option to enable it is under the advanced settings that appear once you press CTRL + F1
I figured i would post it and maybe someone else would have more luck.

    Hi Guys,

I asked Gigabyte whether they would be having a quick boot function in there next GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard BIOS release and they sent me this F13v which they say will be formally released soon. I was previously running F13k which threw up a SMART error with my OCZ SSD but this is fixed in this version. They also said it has support for disks over 3TB in size but still no Quick Boot. I have 12GB of memory running Win7 64-bit and it takes what seems like an age to check the memory at boot. I have installed this BIOS without any problems and I tried to attach a zipped version (about 615k) but apparently thatys way above the 150k files size limit for a zipped file lol?

    regards

Hmmmmm..... The bios I posted that I was given from gigabyte for the EX58-UD5 I did not flash my self so I can not say 100% that the bios enabled or fully supports VT-d.

This is the conversation that I had with them.

Now I can tell you when I flashed the EX58-Extreme bios to the EX58-UD5 I can enabled VT-d and with VMware ESXi installed natively I can have direct io path to devices. If I disabled it I lose access.

What's the best way to cross-flash the EX58-UD5 Rev 1 to the EX58-Extreme bios? That sounds like it might be the better choice right now...

    Thanks!

    Thanks!
Remember Crossflashing will void your warranty if you have any problems with the board and need to send it in for RMA.

    SPIFLASH.zip

    Create a usb boot disk.

Copy spiflash a long with the EX58-Extreme bios to usb disk

Boot from usb disk and type spiflash "BIOSNAME" biosname= the name of the EX58-Extremem bios.

SPIflash with give error about mismatch ID of some sort. Ignore the error and press enter.

After flash reboot enter bios load optimized defualts save and reboot.

It is interesting that this BIOS contains older ROMs. Specifically:

    • Intel(R) RAID for SATA - v10.6.0.1091 [most recent is v11.0.0.1124]

    • PCIE-to-SATAII/IDE RAID Controller BIOSv1.06.59 [most recent is jmb363_1.07.28; I note that the JMB ROM included in the 14q BIOS includes Gigabyte copyrights; the most recent JMB ROM does not; not sure what the customizations might be, if any]

    • Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series v2.39 (01/24/11) [most recent is v2.43 (09/30/2011)]
    Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P rev 1.0; F14q (mod) BIOS

After Initial testing both these bios gigabyte remove vt-d support.

Intel raid rom is version 10.6

I flashed my EX58-ud5 with f13v.. Bios flashed successfully and loaded optimized defaults. I set correct boot order and the system reboots after verifying dmi pool data. Reflashed make sure I disabled keep dmi pool data and still will not let the system boot.

I tried the Extreme bios first but did not try to boot just flashed to see if VT-d support was still there.

Edit - Error on my part. I did not let the system boot after loading optimized defaults from crossflashing back to UD5.

Alll Fixed. UD5 bios works fine just no VT-d Support.

LOL How the hell do u guys upload new BIOS files to this forum? It doesnt recognise the official unzipped BIOS file and the forum will not accept zipped files over 150kb. I have an F13v BIOS for the EX58-UD5 that I think might be of interest,
