Exclamation Re: GIGABYTE Latest Beta BIOS

    GA-X79S-UP5 possible UEFI/BIOS issue:

    Hi Stasio,

Any help you or anyone else can provide would be greatly appreciated. I have had this board for 4 days now and it has been giving me nothing but issues with POST. I have basically swapped out the hardware twice over at this point (With the exception of the CPU HSF) and the issue is still there when running a nVidia 600 series or GTX560 GPU:With a new MSI TF GTX 680 installed, the screen comes up and it sits there on the logo for 20 seconds (No resoponse from setup key or others) then video signal is lost and the comp sits there and does nothing.
With a new (EVGA) GTX 560 installed, no screen output at all.
With a used (EVGA) GTX 560 pulled from a working computer, same as above. No video at all.
With a new (Gigabyte) 660ti installed, same result as the GTX 560 above
On a whim, I installed an older EVGA 9600GT and it POSTs normally and I can access the UEFI. I took the opportunity to update via QFLASH to the latest, non beta F3 revision on the Gigabyte site. (Board came with F1) To my dismay, this still did not solve the issue.

    Here are the build specs:
    Corsair D550 case
    Intel 3930K (C2)
CM 212EVO socket 2011 CPU HSF
    GA-X79S-UP5-WiFi (Now running F3 UEFI)
Corsair Vengeance 10600 RAM 4x8GB QC kit
    MSI GTX 680 TF
    2 Samsung 830 256GB SSD's
PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK2 950w

    In troubleshooting:
I have already swapped out the motherboard for another NIB Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5 and still the same issue.

Went and bought a second NIB 3930K CPU. No change.

Tried it with the new Corsair RAM mentioned above and also new Kingston Hyper-X Genesis DDR3 10600 (using 2x4GB in the recommended slots) and used (From another computer) OCZ 3G1333 10666 2X2GB modules.

Swapped the 950W for a new 750W PC PnC Silencer MK2 and still no change.

Also I did the initial troubleshooting with all peripherals unplugged. (Just mobo, PSU, vid, and RAM connected in all the allowed slot permutations)
I even tried the vid cards in the second PCIe 16x and the PCIe 8x slots.

I have yet to try an AMD based card. I might pull one of the 6950's from the comp I'm typing this on but I think I've lost the will to troubleshoot this product anymore after already blowing 3 nights on this.

I have been building computers since 1995 and this has to be in the top 5 of most challenging (and frustrating) hardware issues I've run into. The issue would appear to be with nVidia PCIe spec 2.0 and 3.0 cards but I see others on here running 600 series nVidia GPU's on this board so I'm stumped on this one. I really thought the second new mobo was going to fix the issue.

I bought this board for the SAS functionality and wanted a stable, near WS quality build. (I just want a rock steady build, no overclocking.)

I see your beta UEFI's for the GA-X79S-UP5 listed here but will that solve the issue? As I said I used QFLASH and updated from F1 to F3 but thats the last stable UEFI listed on the site.

I am thinking it must be firmware related at this point since I have swapped out the hardware twice over at this point. (Using different hardware vendors for RAM and Video)

RobGio I had the same problem with a X79-UD7 mobo and reported some time ago. My problem was with a Radeon HD 7970, I solved temporary putting a PCIe 2.0 card in another slot, this forced the system to work with PCIe 2.0 and the card worked well.

    Thanks xomoxo!

I was begining to think I was going crazy. Did you plug it into the 4x or 8x slot? Weird because the GTX560 is a 2.0 spec card but i think I only tried it in PCIe slot 1. (I tried the GTX 680 in the other 16x slots but now that I think about it the 4x electrical slot is 2.0 spec so maybe ill try that) How long has this been an issue for?

I tried googling using various terms but I couldnt find anyone with the same issue. (My google fu leaves a lot to be desired)

    Stasio,

Will there be a fix this week? I cant wait too long as far as the store return policy goes. If this board has issues with all current gen video cards you would think Gigabyte would put out an advisory or recall? That's a pretty big flaw...

F15p (introduced in F15o) hangs when Fast Boot option is enabled.

F15p (first seen in F15m) will not enable keyboard and mouse support until Windows is started and the drivers for USB-devices are loaded.

It seems that the F15-BIOS does not initialize USB-hubs. When connected to a hub they won’t start and the LED:s on the keyboard are off even though my USB-hub has its own power supply. I tested on two different brands of hubs and no one worked.

If I connect the keyboard and mouse directly to the USB-ports on the motherboard they will work as expected.

RobGio, I put the HD7970 in the PCIEx16_1 and the HD6990 in the PCIEX16_2. You can try to search in the BIOS and option related PCIe in which you can change between Legacy BIOS and another option. The issue suceed around half and a month ago. (Remember I don't own the same board as you, mine is an UD7).

You can also try one of the latest beta bios, maybe this can help. You have Dual BIOS, so you can flash the beta in the second one for try it.

how would I revert the uefi bios back to the original?

I noticed that temps and fans are acting strange with this bios.

fan setting in bios set to normal but yet when running prime95 fan speed wasnt increasing speed to cool cpu and cpu was getting hot.

    board is p67a-d3-b3

    never mind figured it out.

used the back to award program in first page

Can you boot normally? (not Fast Boot) I'm using F15p with a wireless KB/mouse and no problems. I've got the transceiver plugged into a rear USB 2.0 port.
I tried Fast Boot when it first appeared and seemed problematic or else I had it configured incorrectly so I don't use it, besides it already boots super fast.

I see there are options for USB functionality with Fast Boot, did you try those?
