    Z97X-UD5H BIOS F9
I used Qflash, and both the main and backup BIOS were flashed. Never seen that before.

Also, Uncore (on Auto) does not drop below 40x. If this is a problem for you, don't flash F9 since once you do you can't go back to earlier BIOS it's said.

Really? Have you tried to flash an older version? I wonder why they would do this. I may wait as I'm running Haswell on my soc force.

On the previous page where stasio's announcement of the new BIOS is, he states that you can't go back to previous BIOS.
Gigabyte does this sometimes, sometimes it's to upgrade Qflash, other times it depends on what other code they change.
But no, I have not tried to flash a previous BIOS.

EDIT: OK I tried to go back but it would not.

Hmm..I don't like the sound of this at all. Boondocks, does it matter if your board setting is for single bios mode and not dual bios mode? Will it still update both main and backup bios? Defeats the very purpose of having 2 BIOSes.

    Thanks for the heads up!

That's a good question...I honestly don't know. For whatever reason that's the way Gigabyte set it up. But if you don't need support for "5th generation" cpu's then you have to make the decision whether flashing the new BIOS is worth it.
The only downside -if you can call it that- that I see is that the uncore will not lower at idle, but instead stays at 40x when set to Auto. It's possible they will release another BIOS at some point to correct that, but we have no way of knowing. As you probably know, if the uncore voltage is set manually in the BIOS and not left on Auto it pretty much stays the same whether the uncore lowers at idle or not. So that is obviously not a problem, and truly I haven't seen any bad effects from the uncore staying at 40x.

I love Gigabyte boards, and I have even swapped emails with the head of R&D before, but honestly I sometimes wonder about the people who program the BIOS.
They went so far as to buy a complete system from me once to try to chase down some bugs, so I have to say it's not like they don't care, because I know they do!

I agree, it is something one can live with. I assume they may have some good reasoning for setting it up that way. It does seem this is the case across most, if not all the z97x board boards. I think I will certainly wait, since I don't have an immediate need for Broadwell support.

I have contacted support, hopefully they get back to me with some reasonable answers.

Cheers man, glad I didn't just go ahead a do an update .

I was able to successfully downgrade to F8 using fpt. Just make sure you update the MAC ID at 1000h in the bios before flashing. Now I have main bios version F8 and backup bios F9 I think the restriction is there because if you are running the 5th gen processor and experience a crash, switching to the backup bios will still result in no boot situation. A more intelligent implementation would be to check the CPU you are running and prevent a downgrade to any version below F9 if your running a 5th gen CPU.

Interesting. I'm not a hex editor guy, if that's what you're talking about , I would probably screw it up.
My pc is doing OK with the F9 right now, it should be OK.

    Thanks.
