    Exclamation O/C Help EP45-DS3R w/e5200 PC2Duo not overclocking?

Longtime lurker, tried to educate myself about this board/chip combo, but I'm getting nowhere fast with an O/C.

Doesn't seem to want to Overclock at all. Welcome all good advice on settings to try.

Not totally new to o/c as I had o/cd my previous chip/board (P4 Pentium 2.4GHz and Abit IS-7 to 3.2Ghz,) but maybe a bit out of practice.

My problem is, I have tried different settings as listed here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/help...te-user-27915/

and even going back to default and just trying to change FSB to 210 @12.5, but the comp does it reboot sequence, and then shows the FSB set back to 200MHz regardless of multiplier.

My goal is just to get to maybe 3.2GHz or so with this chip/board.

Have latest F10 bios flashed. Running Corsair 2x2Gb PC 6400 DDR2.

Currently at default settings (although I've tried the others listed in thread above).

I have had CPU VCore set at 1.35 but it still resets to 200MHz.

Well, you should have at least searched for E5200. I just say that cause you linked a Q9450 thread, but maybe you did that cause of your ram? Anyhow I will see if I can help you along

CPU Voltage will be up to you and your chip, set high first so you can for sure boot thru then lower until it fails and then bring back up some. P45 has a large drop from what you set in the BIOS to what you actually get in windows, so please do check this difference with CPU-z and keep that in mind. 1.35 in the BIOS may only be 1.29 actual so that along with some other things you have in Auto may be your issue

Please give me a link to your exact ram so I can check warrantied voltage, thanks

First off, if you did not after you flashed please go and load optimized defaults, set your ram voltage and trfc to 68 for now and save/apply. Then we can get started. If you like you can then before you start overclocking make any other changes you normally do and save that as a stock profile (F11 is save on the MAIN page, and F12 is load)

Be sure after you do reboot after loading optimized that you go in and set your disk settings again, before you try to load windows! Especially if you have RAID setup as it will be corrupted if you do not

Try this for 3.20 with ram at 850Mhz

Ty for your reply, LSD...yes I did in fact read other e5200 threads, but as I recall, most were looking for a more aggressive overclock, whereas the thread I linked would have been milder settings. So I thought (probably in error) that would give me abetter baseline to start with. Also, when searching e5200, I didn't have any luck finding anything pertaining to the ep45 ds3r board...mainly the 35 boards or some other iteration.

    Ram is this corsair

OK, just tried your settings (all at highest levels you posted) and the computer does the same thing...

As soon as I hit F10
    Computer instant off
then restarts, but before posting (nothing on monitor) Off again
then it restarts -> off again before post
Then it will restart and post, showing OLD FSB setting (200) with NEW multiplier (10)

A couple of things I have noticed in my bios:
Under Channel A timing settings at the very bottom, I have DDR Write Training set to AUTO

Then underneath both Channel A and Channel B Timing Settings, I have a selection for Channel A and Channel B DRIVING settings = everything there is also set to AUTO

Again, thanks for your reply...it looks like the ABIT IS-7 board I had previously must have had EP35 style overclocking settings...there's just too many settings on this board for me to get my head around so far...lol.

Still puzzled why comp doesn't even POST...VCore was set to 1.38125 and DRAMV was set to 2.1...also, you were right, the auto setting of MCH Core WAS in fact 1.1V, but I changed it to 1.3 as you suggested along with all other settings.

I know of a Few E5200's and P45 boards. I just used E5200 when I looked the other day and saw two or three, not many but they are there

Did you try all the highest I suggested for setting on ram timings? Use driving strength profile 800 or 1066, 1066 may be best at 900.

Please post for me your exact settings you tried, and if you have got anywhere with others like from stock to something post those as well and I will see what I can advise for you.

Can you test this ram in another board to be sure it is not DOA? It happens.

You can also try this and just choose your memory multi with a B or D on it, you may also try A and C as well just try to keep the ram under 900 or so when choosing a multi as they will be different multi's for each letter >>>

    Thanks for the replies.

You bring up a good point re memory problems.

It just doesn't make any sense that regardless of how loose the timings are set or how high voltage is set, I can't change my FSB at all.

Decided to run Memtest 2.01 and w/in the two hours it was running (68% first pass of the test suite) it said I had like 800+ errors?!?

The bottom half of my screen was filled with red, so it may just be that I got a bad batch of memory.

Getting it replaced and I'll take up this cause hopefully next week again once I get sorted.

Appreciate the help. Hopefully this will set me straight.

Good luck with your RMA. Was that testing you mentioned with one stick only? If not you could not be sure if it was incorrect settings.

Tests should be done one stick at a time to check for faulty or DOA ram, with Manually set spec voltage, Main timings and Memory speed

    Now this is strange.

Popped out my second 2GB stick of memory in prep to RMA them both (which I'm not too excited about cuz my comp will be down for 5 days).

Went into bios and from 'optimized defaults' that was loaded,
Changed CPU core clock to 240
and took TURBO on Memory to STANDARD

I didn't change ANYTHING else - left all mem settings on AUTO, and the comp shut off instantly, and rebooted, showing 3.00GHz overclock.

Didn't even change the voltage and it seems to be running bios CPU voltage is 1.8xx, and CPUz shows CPU running at 1.136V as I'm typing this. (Not stressed of course)

Well the good news is, at least I know I'm not missing some simple setting in order to o/c my system - at least I know it CAN be done.

    Just crossing my fingers

Got the new sticks and all seems fine.

    e5200 now O/C'd to 3.64 Ghz @ 346 x 10.5

Can't seem to get perfect stability above 346 fsb. Orthos and Prime 95 show it's stable, but I get locked upon COD WaW.

Left my memory settings on Auto, so I might be able to eek out a bit more if I set them correctly, but all the settings in there spin my brain.

Thanks for all of the counsel.
