    Default Help Overclocking GA-EP45-UD3P

    I have a new EP45-UD3P board with an E8600 chip I would like to push to 4ghz. Also 4gig of GSkill PC8500 memory. I've used Gigabyte's Easy Tune v6
    to aquire 3.87ghz with no problem. I can adjust for the cpu overclock by the
    multiplier to aquire 4ghz, but run in reboots attempting to adjust the settings for the memory. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    That is ok to test with EasyTune, but you should be doing things in your BIOS so you get used to what does what.

    Please do give me your settings so far that you are using in the BIOS and I will advise. Also, check in CPU-z what the actual voltage is you get for 3.87 so I can know around what to advise for 4Ghz >>>

    This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

    I have a GA-EP45-UD3P version 1.1 with BIOS F8.
    a E8500 E0 stepping. 4G of Crucial Ballistic DDR2-6400 cas 4. A XFX 260/216 video card.

    I am trying to overclock it to around 4-4.2Ghz. People seem to feel it's pretty easy to achieve and doesn't push the CPU too far.

    I am seeking help as this is my first overclock, and overclocking guides do not seem to have the same settings for the BIOS.

    I got my Crucial Ballistic running @ 540 1080Mhz! Well it's running memtest86+ now....

    What is the difference between 2.00B and 2.00D multipliers? and how does that all work. I think my proc has a 1333 FSB... so shouldn't I have to match that to get a 1:1????

    With a 2.00 memory multiplier, you are running at a 1:1 ratio.

    In cpu-z, 333 is the bus speed, and the "Rated FSB" is 4 x bus speed, or 1333 MHz. In the memory tab, DRAM Frequency is 333.0 MHz, but the memory speed is 2x the frequency.

    With your 540 MHz bus speed, your rated FSB is 4 x 540 = 2160 MHz and your memory is running at DDR2-1080.

    Even if you could run with the 2.0B strap at 540 MHz, you would probably have to loosen the tRD/static tREAD setting which would degrade your overall memory performance. You might have to change your current tRFC memory setting.

    With your Static tRead Value set on AUTO, you're probably not getting the most out of your memory. Ignore the "11" value in the bios. You need to use MemSet to see what your current memory timings are.

    You should run extended stability testing with your current setup. Then you can tweak the cpu clock ratio to take you into never-never land.

    I am still very new and want to learn about the overclocking, but not until my ability to get up to 4ghz or more.,
