    Default GA-EP45T-DS3R memory problems

    Hello,

I just built a new system and I'm having trouble getting everything stable. I have a GA-EP45T-DS3R with the F3 bios, 2GB of Corsair TWIN3X2048-1333C9DHX ram and a Q6600 2.4 Ghz processor and I'm running Windows XP 64 bit.

When I load normal (or optimized defaults) the system won't stay up for more than a couple of minutes before crashing. After exchanging motherboards at Fry's I contacted Corsair (thinking that the problem was the RAM) and they recommended that I bump the voltage on the RAM up to 1.8V from 1.5V. The made the system more stable but it still crashes. It can run for hours now but is always dead within a day.

I'm looking to accomplish two goals, I want to get my system to be stable and I want to overclock the Q6600 to 3GHz so that I can run my ram at full speed. My current CPU temp is 28 degrees C with a Zalman cooler so I'm pretty sure that getting to 3Ggz won't be a problem.

I'm new to this type of tweaking but I've built my own PC's for more than 15 years and I could use some guidance. The computer I'm upgrading from was a Mac so I've missed out on the overclocking goodness. I've done some searches and found info that is similar to mine but different enough that I thought that I should start my own thread.

Thanks in advance for the help,

I fired up Memtest86 v2.01 an after a couple of hours I had a bunch of errors. Attached is a "screenshot".

It's a matched pair. Here's a link to the PDF for the ram. The ram sticker says 1.5V.

    http://corsair.com/products/go.aspx?...2048-1333C9DHX

I'll put those settings in and fire off memtest again.

What is a stock CPU PLL voltage?

I had to set the CPU host control to enable to get the speed to go up.

I think that I've figured out how to get this board stable. I made a few more tweaks to the MCH voltages and it went through 6 passes overnight without error. When I get home tonight I'll post the numbers.

Nice to hear. I checked your PDF and it says your ram is tested at this voltage >>>

Tested together at 1333MHz, Vdimm =
1.60V, at latency settings of 9-9-9-24
So you can use 1.5 MAYBE, but I would stick with 1.6 or 1.7 if you run really tight timings or overclock it at all. And yes of course you can always underclock it and tighten main timings and lower volts

CPU PLL I am not sure about Q6600, that is why I said stock. You should see it in the BIOS on the left, just manually set it to that value

    Hi,

I guess that I spoke too soon. I let it run a little longer and it errored out again.

Based on your recommendations I changed the following:

    MCH Clock Skew: 100ps
    System Memory Multiplier: 4.00B
    Advanced Timing Control
    tRRD........................................... 4
    tWTR.......................................... 8
    tWR............................................ 10
    tRFC........................................... 70
    tRTP........................................... 5
    Command Rate (CMD) ....................: 2
    Static tRead Value.........................: 7

    For A and B:
    tRD Phase0 Adjustment...................: 0 Auto
    tRD Phase1 Adjustment...................: 0 Auto
    tRD Phase2 Adjustment .................: 0 Auto
    tRD Phase3 Adjustment..................: 0 Auto
    Trd2rd(Different Rank)....................: 9 Auto
    Twr2wr(Different Rank)...................: 7 Auto
    Twr2rd(Different Rank)...................: 7 Auto
    Trd2wr(Same/Diff Rank)..................: 9 Auto

    CPU Termination…..... 1.200V*.......: 1.3
    MCH Core......................................: 1.200

    DRAM Voltage.................................: 1.800

    Two questions:

    What should I tweak now?
Is there some ram that you could recommend that would "just work"? I getting tired of fighting this corsair stuff.

    Thanks,
