Default GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS5 Overclock to 3.4 with Q6600

I have managed, after two days of tinkering, to overclock Q6600 b3 to 3.0. I found settings which are perfectly stable at 3.0. thanks to a post by c0nc0n at atomic archive. I have since spent 24 hours playing trying to take it higher, but to no avail.

I'm running Corsair Dominator 2x2GB DDR2 8500 which seems to want to run at 1066, Q6600 (B3 stepping) on a GA-x48-DS5 with a 850 Watt PSU. My CPU temps are running around 50c and passing all tests in Prime95.

My current settings are as follows:

    1. Robust Graphics Booster: Auto
    2. CPU Clock Ratio: 9x
    3. CPU Host Clock Control: Enabled
    4. CPU Frequency (MHz): 333
    5. PCI Express Frequency (MHz): 100
    6. C.I.A 2: Disabled
    7. Performance Enhance: Disabled
    8. System memory Multiplier: 3.2B
    9. DRAM Timing Selectable: Auto
    10. System Voltage Control: Manual
    11. CPU Voltage Control: 1.3

My best attempt to go higher to 3.2 were unstable.
    Those settings were:

    1. Robust Graphics Booster: Auto
    2. CPU Clock Ratio: 8x
    3. CPU Host Clock Control: Enabled
    4. CPU Frequency (MHz): 400
    5. PCI Express Frequency (MHz): 100
    6. C.I.A 2: Disabled
    7. Performance Enhance: Disabled
    8. System memory Multiplier: 2.66D
    9. DRAM Timing Selectable: Auto (running at 5-5-5-18) tried 5-5-5-15 also
    10. System Voltage Control: Manual
    11. CPU Voltage Control: 1.4

Anyone care to share their settings for overclocking this MOBO? This is my first attempt and I have no idea what I'm doing. Thanks in advance for any assistance! BTW, I love this board, it is awesome.

post a full spect .. easier to help ... because need to know your VTT , MCH voltage ??

in OC ... 3 thing ... Vtt , MCH , Vcore .... that for CPU ... when OC .. don't worries about the Ram ... set lower for easier OC .. when you got to the point you want ,... then you start tweaking the ram ... 1 rule i learn ... OC higher is much better than OC the ram ... some time need to lower the ram so can achieve high OC.

    from 6 different Q6600 I oc ... 3.3 - 3.4 .. the vcore = 1.32 - 1.37500 .... FSB = 1.25 - 1.38 ... MCH = 1.5 - 1.6 ... depend on CPU they all little different... but all the temp is 61 and under full load.. on air
personally i don't like my max temp to get over 63 .... i run machine 24/7 so want to be safe ...
    good luck

Got a link to your ram? You do need to set a few things manually that is looks like you maybe are not for 2x2GB. Please fill this in with what you are trying for 3.2 and I will advise >>>>

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

Sorry for the slow response, e-mail notification isn't working I guess. Thanks for the help. I'll get on getting the numbers and get back here with them...

OK! Here are my setttings. I am now running at these settings, but I can't stay here for long! I have been running the 3.0 settings without issue (see previous post). If it is any help, SYSTEM window reports CPU speed at 3.6, but it is actually 3.2xx. Anyway, see what you think! Thanks, Jeff

JUST MADE a correction to above data...cpu voltage control is set 1.3, not auto, thanks.

Well, I see plenty of issues for 3Ghz or 3.2 with those settings! Auto for sure is never best and often can cause issues.

Here is what I suggest for 3.2 >>>

Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto or Fast]
    CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
    CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [402] << Use 402 so you are not right on the 400 strap line

    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
    C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.66D]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

    Performance Enhance = [Standard]

    CAS Latency Time________________ 5
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 5
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______5
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 15/18

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ 3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________ 3-6 (9-11 may be better for your board)
Write to Precharge Delay_________ 4-6 (11-14 may be best)
    Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 52-62
    Read to Precharge Delay__________ 3-5
    Static tRead Value_______________7-10
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ 0 Auto << always Auto

    CPU/PCIEX Clock Driving Control [800mV]
    CPU Clock Skew Control [normal]
GMCH Clock Skew Control [Normal] << try 50-150ps

    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [Normal] << Set to what you see on your ram sticker, normally 2.0-2.1

    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal]<< +0.1 for stability
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [Normal] << +0.1 for stability
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [Normal] << +0.2-0.3V for stable 2x2 Ram
CPU Voltage Control_______ [Normal] << You will have to find your CPU and boards amount needed here. First at stock or somewhere stable set a voltage and then go in windows and see what the actual amount you get is with CPU-z and keep that in mind. For 3.2 you may need 1.3-1.4 or so actual. Likely 1.280-1.35 or so would be a good guess

Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]
    No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
    CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Disabled]
    C2/C2E State Support....................: [Disabled]
    x C4/C4E State Support..................: [Disabled]
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Enabled]
    CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled]
    Virtualization Technology................: [Disabled]

BTW, would the settings you gave me, generally, work for 3.4 with the proper cpu freq and dram timing?
