    Default Help stabalize GA-EP45-DS3L

    I've been getting random blue screens on this system I'm using as an HTPC. I just loaded the latest bios f10 (via qflash) and am starting over with optimized defaults.

    GA-EP45-DS3L
    Intel E7200 @ 2.53Ghz - Can't overclock an unstable system
    2x1GB Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D (TWIN2X2048-8500C5D) datasheet

    After doing some reading here, I've already changed a couple of settings to see if they help...

    You should also see this setting below, when you flashed to the latest BIOS you did load and apply optimized defaults and save/reboot right? If not you need to do that, then go back to the BIOS to set all other settings again (Including SATA Settings) >>>

    Thank you for the prompt reply. I tried the following settings, selecting the high number for each of the ranges you provided. Unfortunately, the system would not post, and when I went into the bios setup it gave me an error about voltage being set too high. What should I vary from these settings to get the system to post properly? Thanks!

    Well, you really need to find why it would not post... Voltages may be the cause, but that warning appears with any incorrect setting.

    Unfortunately still no go. After I make the changes and hit F10 and Y, the system goes to black and never comes back. A few CTRL-ALT-DEL sequences revives it. After entering setup, the following message is displayed in a red box when entering the MB Intelligent Tweaker(M. I. T.) menu:

    The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages.

    Last settings in this page may not coincide with current H/W states


    For System Memory Multiplier I tried both 4.00A and 4.00B. For Driving Strength Profile I tried both 1066 and OC-1200.

    A couple of additional questions...


    1. When I chose the values when you provided ranges in your original post for things like Advanced Timing Control, I picked the maximum value. I think I had read in another thread that those would be the least aggressive (aka. most stable). Is that a correct assumption?
    2. When we do get this working, what values will I be changing if I choose to overclock?

    Quick update...

    I changed DRAM Timing Selectable from Manual to Auto. I had System Memory Multiplier set to 4.00A and everything else from above the same (of course, you can't set Standard and Advanced DRAM Timing). The system now posts without and error. So perhaps one of the Advanced Timeing Control settings is the issue??

    Yeah, higher values would be more stable. So manual does not work but Auto does....

    Try this manually and see if we can start getting to it, with what you said above is working >>>>

    I tried various the exact setting you provided and the system will still not post if I have DRAM Select Timings in manual. I varied the values of tRAS and Driving Strength Profile.

    So is the problem the Crucial RAM? Unfortunately (for me, I guess), this exact RAM was listed by Gigabyte in the compatibility document for this motherboard. If this is going to continue to be an issue, I'd much rather ditch this RAM and grab another manufacturers product that has proven stable settings in this motherboard.

    I have no issues with Crucial in Ep45 boards, I am testing 2x2 and 4x1 right now without issue up to 1200+ Mhz

    Crucial? You said Corsair in your first post???? Which exact Crucial do you have and why did you say Corsair?

    Please post me the full exact settings you tried and I'll see if I can help ya.

    You did test each stick one by one with Memtest86+ 2.0-2.1 right? To be sure one or both is not faulty?

    Sorry, my bad on saying Crucial vs Corsair. The memory is 2x1GB Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D (TWIN2X2048-8500C5D) as I defined in the first post. Based on your response, I get the feeling you think I am a complete idiot and don't have clue what I am doing. I assure you this is not the case. The last thing I want to do is waste time (yours or mine).

    For now, I'll run Memtest86+ on these Corsair sticks again today.

    Here are the full settings that we have worked up to at this point. Just to reiterate, the system will not post with these settings unless I set the DRAM Timing Selectable to Auto, which of course nullifies all of the manual DRAM related settings...
