    Default EP45 DS5 taking Q6600 to the limit

    Posting my first thread hear after beeing a loyal reader for some time.
    A bout a month ago I handed in my 3rd Asus board for RMA since their BIOS been crashing/die for some odd reason, just extreme settings or so, just standard settings. So anyway I decided to give Gigabyte a chance, so I bought a EP45 DS5.

    I upgraded my rig with some watercooling and a Gigabyte 4870x2 while I was at it. A 3x120 radiator for the GFX and a 3x120 rad for CPU and NB/MCH.

    As I did this I decided to try and oc my Q6600 to the limit of stability, as a G0 I thought it'd be a fun jurney. Also the oc would contribute with a little extra kick out of the 4870x2 aswell.
    Anyhow , before I continue the specs might be handy.

    Q6600 G0
    Gigabyte EP45 DS5
    Gigabyte 4870x2
    2x2GB Corsair Dominator PC8500 2.1v
    4x 320GB Seagate SATA2 [Raid 0+1]
    Corsair HX620W Modular

    I've been overklocking since back when the XP1700 came out and the would turned upside down in the hunt for the ultimate stepping. Took a break from it for a year or so and now I thought that I'd make a comeback.
    However I'm not too familiar with the Gigabyte bios since I've been using the Asus Striker most recently didn't get a chance to OC on it though but the options looks a little different.
    Read up on Lsdmeasap's threads and awnsers to questions reguarding the various card models to get the hand of it.
    Yesterday my working week were over and I decided to spend a few hours aiming for 4GHz.
    After a few hours I ended up managing to boot with 3.8GHz, as stable as a..... oh well it wasn't stable.
    Intel tells you not to use over 1.55v Vcore as it could potentially damage the CPU, however I am aware of this as I've been feeding the CPU with 1.6V to get it to boot with 3.8GHz frequecy.
    The main reason is the Vrop , as all four cores are stressed with orthos Vcore drops to ~1.45-148V .
    Been feeding the MCH with 1.5V aswell but can't get it stable, the main reason for this thread it to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or is missing something to get it stable or could it be the huge drops that causes it ?

    Latest BiOS for the DS5 is flashed, F12 I think it was.

    Any suggestions, and if something is way off I feel free to say so as I'm new to overclocking on the intel chipsets. As for temperatures, both CPU and NB/MCH loads at 45 degrees celsuis with full load at 3.6GHz, idles at 31 degrees.

    One more thing that confuses me is that the Dominator RAM is supposed to do 533MHz , did try that with 6x533 , putting som extra voltage to the MCH and 2.2V on the RAM , still couldn't boot, even tried more Vcore but it didn't help. Could it be since I run with auto on the Timing settings or is it the Vdrop that keeps bugging my progress ? Any suggestions are welcome as I'm beginning to run out of ideas.

    What is all your missing settings? Auto? Auto may be why you are so unstable, as it often uses to tight or too loose settings.

    Since you are using 400 MCH latch, be sure to use 9 or above Static Tread, and setting your driving strength profile one above your ram speed seems to work best

    I would say to try these changes out

    MCH Core…………….....1.100V...........: << 1.45-1.5V << Much less is likely more stable once you adjust the above voltages. Pll and Vtt will help you get stable and maybe bring this down to 1.25-1.3 or so and may even let you use less vcore

    Yeah the not mentioned settings have been set to auto. I did try setting the timings for the memories manually to 5-5-5-18 as their spec was 5-5-5-18-2T and 2.1v , tough it seems as they ran more stable with settings on auto than on manual, might be the advanced settings that has an affect on this as I let that bit be set to auto as I'm not too confident with those settings.

    Ya manually setting them to proper settings would be best, but like you seen incorrect settings would not be stable

    If you would like some ranges for all settings let me know
