    Hi all,

    I've been browsing the Gigabyte forums for a while now; since I got my EP43-DS3. I have to say the technical support delivered to this forum is amazing.

    I'm currently running:

    E7200 @ 3.2 GHZ
    Gigabyte-EP43-DS3 with the F8 BIOS
    4GB of Corsair XMS2-6400C5 @ 800MHZ
    Coolermaster iGreen 600W
    With Windows XP

    I've played around with overclocking for quite a while now, on AMD systems before I got this mainly, so going to the Intel scene is a little confusing.

    My main issues is the different voltages, what are MCH and ICH? I've read about Northbridge and Southbridge but which is which and which one needs the volts?

    I've also read through Lsdmeasap's Memory Timings Explained.
    He mentions havint tRFC at 52-62+ when running 2 x 2GB sticks. I haven't run memtest on them or anything, but will changing the tRFC increase performance?

    Any other improvments I could make? Suggestions please

    Thanks for the kind words, we do have several members here who help often when they can!

    MCH is your Northbridge (Memory Controller Hub)

    ICH is your Southbridge (Intel Controller Hub ICHxx, in your case ICH10)

    And the MCH is normally what needs a bump if you are using more then 2x1 ram or very high FSB

    That 52-62 trfc adjustment is for stability and not so much performance at all.

Try A multi's and if no go try B multi's (At your FSB you may have to use D, but if you use 399 FSB you can use B and it may perform better)

    I've managed to reach 3.5Ghz (415*8.5) But I can't reach the 9 or 9.5 multiplier.

    Would this imply the motherboard is holding me back?

    I can't even reach 416Mhz, 415Mhz is fine in memtest86+ at the timings stated.

    Another thing, do you think my voltages are too high? I'm reading about not going over 1.4Vcore or VTT with 45nm processors. I'm at 1.425Vcore in bios and 1.39Vcore in windows.

    My latest info is in the OP. Could anyone give me some more guidance?

    Ya, it could be. I do hear P43 is a bit FSB limited

    over 1.4 Actual (Not BIOS setting) is ok if temps are good, but you may not need that much what Vtt and MCH are you using

    What exact settings are you using now for 415 FSB? Doesnt look like you updated much above? Please post them here below, full changed settings and I will see if I see why you may be held back

    I've been messing around all afternoon. Everything runs fine in memtest86+ but everything fails orthos in under 5 minutes.

    Temperatures are all fine at the moment. Doesn't break 60 degrees using coredamage08f.

    Sounds like you need more volts then if memtest passes but orthos fails.

    Try these changes >>>>

    or

    After fiddling around for the past 8 hours, the only stable overclock I can find is 3.39Ghz @1.4V; which is a bit disappointing after seeing other E7200 results. At the moment I'm leaving the following to Orthos Blend overnight.

    You would have to bench both methods listed above to see which would be best, it would all depend on what timings and static tread you set as well. You could leave them the same, but 333 would let you get a lower static tread so that may be best

    Driving strength 1066 may also give you some benefit, you would need to test that on both as well
