    Hello all,

I just got this card for my new HTPC and have a quite annoying problem with the video card.

I hope I don't interfere with the topic of this thread.

    Config :

Antec remote fusion + Enermax Modu 82+ 525W
    CM GA-EGM45-DS2H
    Q9550
    OCZ REAPER 2*2GB PC6400
    2* WD 1TB green
    Sata DVD player
Graphic Card Gainward HD4850 Golden Sample

Problem : If I install everything included graphic card, PC powers up, start initialisation, put the Gigabyte logo on the screen, then reset itself and loops endlessly. No access to Bios possible.

If I remove the Graphic card, Everything is ok, bios access with IGP ok.

If I install everything with IGP then plug in the graphic card, let the PC boot on the hard disk without screen connected, and only when HDD stops connect the screen, then graphic cards works ok.

    Question :

Does someone have the same problem ? an idea of solution ? Something special to do or to check ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,

    Frédéric.

Maybe your PSU is not good enough for that card? Can you add SB or PCIE voltages in the BIOS MIT Section, if so you may need to add some voltage for that card

Hello, thanks for the reply, PSU was said it is good in the tests : enermaw 525W modu 82+

I'll try to add some power to the SouthBridge

Other problem I tested this morning : I can't put the DRAM settings to manual, it always fails to boot afterwards, even with the same settings as the auto suggests. I tryed also with the settings specified for the ram OCZ reaper 6400 CAS 4 2*2GB but it won't boot either.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello again,

after my post, I tried again to install the card. with updated bios ... and I wondered if the card was completely inserted in the PCIe slot.

The plastic protection on the graphic card hits against the SATA connectors for the HDD's but it seemed the card was inserted ok.

It is not and when I removed the plastic protection, it booted without trouble.

I'll keep an eye on the temperatures on the GPU to be sure the plastic protection acting as an airduct to extract hot air from the case isn't absolutely necessary.

If yes, I'll have to find another mechanical solution!

    Thanks anyway for the help.

PS : Still not possible to get manual settings for DRAM working but Q9550 is now running at 3.2 GHz.

Well glad to see you got your card working!

About your ram, can you please post me the full BIOS settings you are trying to use? And a link to your ram

    Hi Fredjke,

Interesting, I am running a similar PSU to yours, minus the modular cable, mine's Enermax Pro 82+ 525W, these 82+ series is simply the quietest PSU around, when used below 350W I guess.

By the way, can your RAM work at 2.40B multiplier with the 377MHz bus? It will be significantly faster (>900MHz) than on the 2.00B setting. In my opinion, it should work, just need to increase the DRAM voltage to maybe 2.0V.

Change this to Manual and you can set 444-12 as your timings >>>
DRAM Timing Selectable ................: [Auto] << Manual

You will likely Have to set your ram voltage higher then 1.8V, but maybe not at only 750Mhz. They are rated to run 444-12 at 2.1V, but normally 2.0V will do just fine

If you do want suggested settings for all of that let me know

Oh anyway, I think this motherboard, when coupled with a good CPU, is more than sufficient for HTPC playing full HD stuffs... even with the hardware video decoding disabled on the G45. With my Core 2 Duo E8600 running at stock 3.33GHz, and C1E state enabled, the E8600 will run at only 2.00GHz (333 x 6) at idle and low CPU usage, even when decoding 1080p HD video, I am quite surprised! Only when pushed to convert video files, it will then go to 333x8 (2.66GHz) and finally 333x10 (3.33GHz).

Easytune6 reports my CPU temperature as only 29-32C (which I think is under-read by some 5-8C), while running videos, and this one heck of a cool CPU (CPU actual Vcore is 1.0575V only). System temperature reported is 42-45C. Anyway, my ambient room temperature is rarely lower than 27C, even in the middle of the night, relative humidity is 75-90%.

Which is why I am sticking to 3.33GHz CPU speed while trying to make all other things go as fast as possible, but the G45 Northbridge is quite stubborn as can be seen here in this whole thread.

    Hello,

    Thanks for the answers ...

For the multiplier, I'll try it. For the beginning, I didn't want to push the ram to the max without the CPU ... So I kept the ram below the 800 MHz.

For the Timings, I tried already to put the selection to manual and 44412 but without success even with 2.1V and 667MHz (2.00B Multi and 333MHz for the CPU)
This manual settings never worked fine (even an exact copy of the default values from Auto doesn't allow to boot)

For the voltage, I'll put it higher if needed with the 2.40B Multi.

For the HD video, I try first to get a stable hardware, then vista, then the specific drivers, then the HD camescope and finally HD editing software. But it's true it should be enough with the IGP.

I bought the graphic cards for 3D design. Tried with an IGP which is quickly limited when number of polygons & textures increase.
