    Default EP45 DS3L stability issues with G.Skill DDR2 1066

    I am having hardcore stability issues, computer constantly freezes in windows or during windows loadup with my setup. Bios was flashed to F10, but forgot to load defaults afterwards; I've done that now, but symptoms still persist.

    Have you tested each stick of ram at stock with memtest86+? If not you should, do that test with manually set ram voltage, manually set MAIN timings, performance enhance standard, and the advanced timings all on Auto. Be sure your memory multi is 3.20B so you ram is at stock speed.

    Test each stick about 5-10 passes to be sure you did not get a faulty stick, here is the latest Version (Or at least use Version 2.01) >>>>

    thanks LSD for the quick response. i was wondering how you would set the cpu termination/pll to stock? is it the setting listed as [normal]? I changed the mch core to 1.3, then 1.2, but freezes occured right after windows loaded up. i've done the suggested settings, but it still frezzes every now and then, but stability is much better than before. i will memtest this weekend after Thanksgiving.

    Ya, set normal or the value shown on the left. Such as termination set to 1.20 manually, and Pll set to 1.5 manually.

    So is your system ok then with 1.05 MCH? If not you may just have some other setting off, I would need to see the Full settings you are trying to be sure. But normally you do need at least 1.24-1.28 MCH for 4GB of ram

    i set them to normal, but the PLL won't go any lower than 1.550V. my system is currently running right now with 1.05V MCH, but i am just waiting for something to go wrong, haha. could you please lay out the format you would need for the full settings of my system? sorry, my IT days are way over ever since i decided to major in biology. happy late thanksgiving to you too! too bad i slept through the dinner and festivities for black friday :D

    Pll should be 1.5 by default not 1.55? And ya, you should for sure be able to set it lower, I see some that use 1.3 even. I would say maybe other incorrect settings are stopping you from lowering it.... But 1.55 wouldn't hurt anyway.

    Ya, that MCH setting is likely not memtest86+ stable, or orthos/prime

    Full setting? You gave them to me once, all you do is copy/paste the template and fill in your changes. Here is a mostly blank one for ya >>>

    Run your RAM slightly slower than stock speed. I had the same problem with dual channel mode, it just kept freezing. My RAM at stock was 800mhz so I ran it as 667mhz and everything worked fine.

    There is a setting for the speed of the RAM.

    Set System Memory Multiplier (SPD) [Manual]
    Set Performance Enhance [Standard]
    Set System Memory Multiplier (SPD) [2] which will give you a speed of 532 ~533 (2 x 266).

    You can also find the setting that corresponds to 667 and try that.

    The 266 is the speed of your front side bus. Mine was 266.

    i went through the whole RMA process because it was far from being stable enough to run memtest86+ thoroughly and G.Skill has sent me a new pair. Guess what? Same symptoms..

    Try increasing "Static tRead value" for both channels to 12.

    Is the CPU stable with other RAM? Have you tried running the RAM at DDR2 800 to see if it runs at all?

    uh, i just changed the static tread value to 12 and so far, haven't experienced any crashing. we'll see how this works out, thanks nickel020. and btw, i didn't get to try any other ram with my board and i've tried underclocking it to 800 with no avail.
