Default x48-DS5 + Q9550 stability and overclock help!

having trouble getting this baby stable. Iam able to post and boot windows, crysis crashes along with stalker. passed the orthos test for 5 mins. not sure if that helps. also i have updated to the lattest bios drivers. 7 i beleive. any ideas ppl?
    much much appreciated!

also note that the cpu temp is 55-57 C under prime95 . iam also using artic silver5. are my temps to high? could it be that i might need to redo the application of the thermal paste ?
    thanks for the help!

55-57 for 1.4 vcore is about right ... ( i think you have little too much for 3.4 .. need probably more like 1.375 or less)
need to maybe +2 on MCH ...
Static tRead Value try 9 ...
you might need to loosen your sub ram timing little.

Hey I have the same exact MoBo, processor and ram!!
the settings below have worked rock solid for me, passed every test i've thrown at it. i feel i could crank it higher but there is no need to, graphics card can't keep up with it!!

-prime 95 for almost 12 hours. max CPU temp = 55c
    -5 passes of memtest.
-intel burn test for 10 runs. max CPU temp = 64c
-core damage for 20 minutes or so. max CPU temp = 66c
-and finally and most importantly COD4 played (highest settings) for hours with no hicups.

let me add before you try these settings, that i am confident it is your ram settings that are killing you. corsair 8500-C5 is not the best ram and it hates the D-strap. this is my second build on this ram and it will be my last...anyhow these are my rock solid stable settings.

    Performance Enhance_____________ [Standard]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.40B] = 1046 MHz NOTE: your ram does not like the D-strap!!!!!! B strap has worked the best in my testings!!

    CPU/PCIEX Clock Driving Control [800mV]
    CPU Clock Skew Control [normal]
GMCH Clock Skew Control [Normal] << 50-150
    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.3V] = 2.1v (Not 2.4v as you stated, 2.4 volts would probably fry our cheap ram.
PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal] (0.1 volt less then yours)
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.15V] (0.05 less then yours)
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.225] (yours not shown, maybe reason for original mis-type)
CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.36875v] (less then your 1.4v setting)

copy it in exactly and see how prime and intel burn test go for you, but most importantly see how crysis runs!! if all is good then you can tweak the advanced timing controls, thats next on my list! good luck!

oh! i forgot to add DO NOT TEST MORE THEN 2002 MB OF RAM WHEN USING THE INTEL BURN TEST!!!!! IT DOES NOT WORK!!! i have vista 32 bit, it may work on 64. the dam test had me pulling my hair out until i realized the test is flawed when testing over 2002MB of ram, not my system!!

hmmm, i have set my setings to exactly what you have, accept for the static tRead value which i left at 9 and my pci-e overvoltage control i gave it a plus +.2v.
my games are still crashing. not sure if this is the ram or the video cards vault.
    heat is ok....

SooperHOP, what video card are you using?
oh yah my video card is the 4850 OC to GPU clock 690Mhz and the memory is at 1100mHz.

LOL!! i have a 4850 also. mine came OC'ed at 700 and i think 980ish on the ram stock. i haven't spent too much time on it yet, but right now i'm running it at 715 and 1018.

i'm telling ya now,,, put your grahpics card back to stock, set your ram advanced timings back to auto and set your PCI Express voltage back down to "normal". you need to do one thing at a time to problem solve.

it may just be that my settings won't work for you, but odds are they should since i'm not crazy over clocked. so start from my base and clock one thing higher at a time. i would start with your graphics card (if your bios settings match mine). your CPU and ram will not slow your gaming down with these settings, your graphics card will.

the only thing killing my FPS is not having two graphics cards in crossfire yet. the second thing i will do to improve gaming is get better ram. our ram just plain sucks for what our CPU's and MoBo's are capable of. back it all down to my settings and stock grpahics, then tweak one thing up at time to problem solve.

CORRECTION!!!! i will edit my original and previous posts shortly.

as i read your reply, i thought something is wrong with the PCI-e voltage!!!

    the settings should be:

    PCI-E over voltage_____ [normal]
there is a good read on anantech review about why not to over volt pci-e

    FSB over voltage_____[+0.5v]

    (G) MCH over voltage___[+0.225v]

these are my settings and i'm sorry for the miss print,,,my wife has been out all day and i had my very active 3 year old climbining on me today!
i forget what i read, but a good review of a board close to ours with a Q9550 made it clear over volting PCI-E is risky at best.

Yes, orthos 5 min test is for sure not enough. Start with testing your ram, and then if it passes you can use orthos (For a few hours not minute)

Ya, I would set MCH to +.2-.3 and maybe lower your ram voltage if you are getting 2.4V as that is way to much. You want 2.0-2.1 normally

alrighty. you were right about taking it one step at a time. i guess i just jumped right into it. so i figuired out it was , was the video. it wasn't working overclocked for some reason!
iam doing the auto-tune now in ATI catalyst cc. it should be able to overclock though, the temps are right. any ideas smart ppl? haha
