    Question GA-EP45-DQ6 memory settings issue

    I jumped in (over my head) in to a tweaker board. I am learning fast but my desk is now dented from all the head butts. I did not see a search feature in the forum so I am hoping someone can link a thread or help me with the tons of settings on this MOBO to get my ram stable. Essentially i am getting random system freezes.

    CPU Q9550
    Memory:
    OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

    I currently have the steppings at 5-5-5-18 and voltage at 2.1. The core processor is not overclocked at this time.

    What else do I need to change?

    Read below if you need the details but for this issue a BIOs flash got me to a stable point. I was on F5 and upgraded to f12. Although there is some discussion that f9 may be more stable.

    Back the voltage off from 2.1volts to 2.0 volts and:-

    In the MIT section of the bios, change the following settings.

    1) Performance Enhance = Standard
    2) tRFC (Refresh To Act Delay) = 56

    Edit:
    Are you running the Ram at 1066Mhz or 800Mhz?
    GA-P35C-DS3R Rev2.0 F11 bios, E8200 (@3.0Ghz), OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Reaper 4GB (@1200Mhz), Xonar D1, 8800GTS 512, Corsair HX520 (Single 12volt line, Max 40A), WDC 3200aaks/5000aaks in AHCI mode, Vista 64 Premium.

    Thanks for the help but that seems to create the crash sooner.
    I am runing the memory at 1066
    Thoughts on the other settings?

    are you over clock ???? try set at 333 .. 2.0b ... or 400 2.0D .... that will underclock your ram .... but you will able to get to window ... also set your static read value to 9.

    You should add some MCH voltage as well as the above suggestions (Maybe 1.24-1.28)

    If you still dont get anywhere please link me to your exact ram and fill this out with what you are using and I will get you some suggested settings >>>

    Thanks I will try the settings. Where there is a range is there a prefered increment to test? and do i test each setting and increment individually or should i bundle the changes? example do i change the CH skew and the static read values incrementally or change one at a time?

    Well, for ram timings you should start with the higher values and work your way down. Like with all ram timings high start lowering Static Tread first then the rest.

    Voltages keep higher until you are done tweaking the rest then try to lower.

    You can make more then one change at a time, but it would not be best as if you have errors/failures you wont know which setting is causing it

    Skew is a try last thing normally but you can try it anytime, it helps with stability. Bench with and without it and see if you are stable and or if things are better

    I used the settings displayed above and based on the logic described stated with the highest settings. I still have system freeze on boot. Mem86 passes when run at boot so i think the ram is ok but I am totaly wasted on trying this. Anymore ideas? How about new RAM at this point i am either chucking the board or the ram if I cant get this fixed tonight.

    Update: If i try one stick of ram and still freeze is that still settings (i assume so). i was attempting to isolate if there was a bad stick out of the two.
