Default Double boot or posts GA-EP45-DS4P

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum (but not to computers) & I'm really impressed by the replys, posts & stickys here. Anyway down to my problem I've just built a GA-EP45-DS4P (rev. 1.0)based pc

    E8500
    4gb Corsair PC2-6400 (4 x 1gb)
    650w PSU
    MSI Nvidia 9600GT
    etc
All BIOS settings are default (non OC'ed, standard memory settings etc) except for a few settings that shouldn't effect this problem, which is the PC double posts. From a cold boot it gets to the memory check & reboots, from the next boot it goes though the checks & from there it's ops normal. Checking for changes in the BIOS thinking that the restart changes the BIOS settings to the correct timings etc to let it start isn't the case (no changes in the bios). From a warm restart it boots normally (one boot). Has anyone heard of this or knows what the problem is. I've googled it, searched various forums for about a week without any luck. One more thing, is it normal for the memory Diagnostic LED on the MoBo to stay on (green)?
    I'm hoping someone can help

It does sound like a memory setting issue, especially with 4 x 1 GB sticks.

One thing (amongst several) that does cause that sort of effect is when the "Perfomance Enhance" setting in the MIT section of the bios is set to anything other than Standard.

Lsdme (The GB moderator) will be able to give you some specific settings to try for your P45 and 4 x 1Gb sticks of ram. He will no doubt get to see your post pretty soon.

Yes, I'm starting to think that way (memory setting issue). When I get time I'll post my full specs & settings (I'm at work at the moment). I'll check the MIT section & make sure it's set to standard when I get home. Thanks for your reply VorLonUK

One other thing I did when I assembled the board is connect up the 8 pin 2x4 12V power connector which is recommended for the Extreme Edition CPU even though I'm using a E8500, would that make any difference?, I can always go back to 4pin to see if it makes a difference.

It shouldn't make any difference, all you are doing ensuring there is plenty of current available (with minimal volt drop to the board). I would have connected the 8 pin myself too.

You would be fine and I would recommend using the 8pin over 4pin if your PSU has it.

Several things should be changed for 4x1GB, can you please link me to your exact ram?

Have you tested each stick one by one to be sure none are faulty? If not you should for sure do that >>>

Thanks! Those are rated for 1.9, so you can use 1.9 or 2.0 and should be fine.

Good luck with your testing, let us know how you get along.

And thanks for the kind words!
