    Thumbs up 1066 8GB EP45-DQ6 - this was easy

    Bought these 4x2Gb sticks which were delivered yesterday and installed last night.

    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800) Quad Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

    They ran 8 hrs with no errors on Memtest 2.11b at 5-5-5-15 and 1066. FSB 333 10x and multiplier 3.2 with 1.9 volts and everything else on auto.

    I just put 2 sticks in first which failed to boot with my old timings - so I went in to the BIOS and set the timing to what was being read off the sticks - (5-7-7-20) and set the voltage and a it fired up - added the second 2 sticks and it worked fine. Then went back in and reset the timing to 5-5-5-15 and it booted right up.

    I haven't tried to get them up to the rated DDR1100 yet or improve on the auto settings - any suggestions on best way to go about doing that? I'm on F5 Bios - do I need to update to a more current one first?

    Those are really good settings with 8GB, ie keeping the ram voltage low too. You most probably will have to increase tRFC if you look for a further speed increase in your ram.

    I assume you are using Vista or XP 64 versions?

    If you are using Vista 64, does all appear to be stable? As vista uses ASLR it really highlights memory problems if there are any.

    You will also likely need some MCH voltage as you start to get them up there

    Using XP 64 - yep, seems very stable so far but admittedly I haven't used it very much. XP still seems to be using lots of Page Filing - not sure how to get applications to use the RAM instead of virtual memory more. I set the limit on virtual memory to 400MB and minimum to 200MB and XP gave me a warning when opening Vegas Pro 8 that is needed to increase the virtual memory. Page files still stay at 2GB and under - seems XP should be using RAM instead - RAM usage is around 1GB in that application and in Adobe Photo limited edition seems the same thing (tried blowing a 300DPI image up to 40x60inches and it went in to page filing somewhat). Any suggestions on how to get XP to use more RAM would be great too - it see all 8GB but is only scratching the surface on usage. Adobe is an X86 version but Vegas is X64 so it should be able to use more.


    I'll post my settings to get help on going after more speed by this weekend if not sooner - thanks in advance for the help!

    Keep your page file min/max the same size, this limits fragmentation and corruption of the pagefile, and you should at least keep 1024 or 2048 Pagefile as many apps need the pagefile no matter how much ram you have or what you have been told/read. So 1024min/max or 2048min/max would be best

    Got Vegas using all the RAM - it was a setting inside Vegas I had to adjust

    Ok, for my CMOS - here's whats running right now - still very stable with no issues. F5 BIOS which is what came with the board - suggestions for getting to 1100? thanks for your help!

    Well to get at 1100 ram, you would first need to get that 1066 stable with all manual timings. Then just up your FSB to 344, which you could likely do now with all the same settings Now that I see how small of a jump you are asking about

    Just tried that - it wasn't stable with all the auto settings - I found manually setting CPU / MCH / DRAM voltage - it did boot all in auto but crashed when I ran it hard on a video render. With the settings below - I ran ran Orthos for an hour and memtest 2.11b for an hour and no errors (I'll run each longer tonight - didnt' have time this afternoon) - also did a couple 30 minute renders and no crashes. So should I set everything manually to the settings from the SPD (I assume that's the number before the input on each line item) and start tweeking if I want to go higher? I had it booted and running for a short while with the settings below and 358FSB but it crashed. This change to 1100 / 344 made a marginal improvement in my project render time - about 5% time reduction.

    I'd like to get it up to 1139 and 3.56 or so but thinking I'll need more voltage than I want to run the memory at. What do you think?

    I would recommend you work from this range, I thought Auto may work for you a bit but it is for sure not the best performance wise.. I just did not suggest all settings as you seemed to be happy with what you had going >>>
