Default Major Bottleneck somewhere Please Help

    New system, Segate Sata 300 500 gig hd,4 gig Corsair CM2X 1024-6400C4 mem,GeForce 8600 GTS,GA-P35-DS3L board,Q9650 cpu,Antec 550 watt ps,Sata Lite-on DVDRW.

    Old system HP computer, P4 630 cpu,onboard video,2 gig ram, 40 gig hd,IDE Lite-On DVDRW

Ok here goes, process a dvd with old system in 15:07 mins. Same DVD in new system 24:04 mins. I would think my new system should keep up with old one not be slower. Put the IDE burner in new system and did the DVD in 22:23 mins. Put the sata DVDRW in old system and did the process in 16:00 mins. Sata drive must be a little slower?. Some where I have a real bottleneck, Please help me with this one. On my new system everything is on default. Running the same XP pro for os. If you need more info I will get it for you.

What settings are you using for your P35 board with 4GB of ram, that could be the issue as SATA is not slower then IDE for sure

And what BIOS are you using now?

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

    Code:

Thanks Lsdmeasap for your help, I guess their is a lot more too building a good computer than putting parts in. This is the stuff I need too learn. I have four sticks of ram on the board, should I take one out. Cpu-Z says my ram is 1.8 volts, not sure how of if it should be 2.1 volts. Again Thank you for your time.

Hmm, well I would not imagine the SP3 would make it slower, are they both using the same Intel Chipset drivers and in the same SATA modes? Maybe you have a bad drive, or bad cable? Or a NON SATA II Cable maybe?

You do have native mode enabled in the SATA Settings right?

Here would be optimal settings for that ram at stock, Hey so you have two of those kits right? Just checking to be sure as the settings would need to be different then you posted

    Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Fast]
    CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [9]

    CPU Host Clock Control_ [enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [333]
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
    C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.40]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

    Performance Enhance = [Standard]
    CAS Latency Time________________ 4
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 4
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______4
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 12

    ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________ 3-6
    Write to Precharge Delay_________4-8
Refresh to ACT Delay______________ 38-42 (52-62 for 4x1GB)
    Read to Precharge Delay__________ 3-6
Static tRead Value_______________6 (7-10) << What is your other system using for this setting? *EDIT* Nevermind, a HP would not have any settings for the ram, silly me

Static tRead Phase Adjust________ [Auto] << always Auto

    System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
    DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.2V] << 2.0-2.1 (+0.2-0.3)
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal]
    FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V] (For 4x1GB +0.2-0.3)
    CPU Voltage Control_______ [Normal]

    No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
    CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Disabled]
    C2/C2E State Support....................: [Disabled]

    CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled]
Virtualization Technology................: [Disabled] Enabled if you use Vmware/Virtual PC

    Integrated Peripherals
Legacy USB Storage Detect___________________[? Not sure where should it be] << This is in the Integrated Peripherals BIOS page, same as the SATA Controller page

Yes I have two kits installed, should I leave them both. What should my setting be with two kits, I will change all the setting to what you said and try again.

Changed all my setting, got closer but my 100 dollar HP is faster than this new machine. I was hoping for a little faster unit, just not sure whats going on. I can take the DVDRW out of the new machine and it faster in the HP unit. This does not make sence to me. Please look at my setting if you have time and see if I missed something. Tried it with two sticks of ram and no difference. I guess I will be able too multi-task more than the HP. When I got the Q9650 I was sure it would do Video encoding better. Would a different board make any big difference, this is such a good CPU that is being held back I think.
