    Default EP-45 UD3R success/feedback requested

    I recently bought my first Gigabyte MOBO to replace the piece of crap EVGA 680i LT that I bricked. I never could get a stable O/C with the 680i. 3.0 ghz was the best I could muster with it and my Q6600. Even at a conservative 3.0 O/C, I would run into stability issues and would run it at the stock 2.4 out of frustration.

    I am VERY impressed with the Gigabyte EP-45 UD3R! After reading most of the threads on this forum, I achieved a 100% stable 3.4 O/C with the same Q6600 cpu and the same 2x2GB OCZ 800 mhz ram ( Newegg.com - OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory ). When I had the 680i MOBO, I could never bump up the ram speed more than a couple of MHZ without a BSOD. Now, with the UD3, I am running the same ram at 1020mhz at 5-5-5-18.

    I am running a Zalman 9500 cpu cooler and it seems ok, but I have noticed that when running the IntelBurn stability test, it gets very hot (75c). None of the other stability tests that I have run in the past raise the temps like this tool. I ordered a Zerotherm Nirvana in hopes that it will do a better job of cooling than the Zalman. Under normal conditions I idle at 38-40 and high 40's to low 50's gaming and 60ish running less intensive stability tests like Everest. Anyone else notice such high temps running IntelBurn?

    My settings are listed below. If any of you out there have any suggestions on these settings, I am all ears!! I am going to try 3.6 after I get the new cooler, but I am pretty happy with where it is at now. I ran 3.6 long enough to run a benchmark, but it was not stable.

    Intel burn will be anywhere from 5- 10c higher than other benchmarks. It's a good heatsink tester ;)

    I made the adjustments that you recommended and they all worked just fine.

    I forgot to add this question to my original post:

    Are there any negative issues with having all four dimms populated (stability, latency, etc)? I am considering purchasing another 2x2GB of the same ram that I have.

    Also, I notice that RealTemp registers a lower cpu temp than Everest and actually all of the others I have tried.

    You can for sure, but you will have to re-tweak your ram is all.

    Be sure you get matching sets of ram to what you have now and you will be fine

    Thanks. It runs so well right now that I don't know if I want to gum things up by complicating the system with 2 more dimms populated. We will have to see ;)
