I have a rev. 1.1 board with a quad-core and also have a high-pitched whine at times, but it's not always when it's at 100% load. In fact, when I run Prime95, the high-pitched whine comes in at certain points, but after it reaches 100% and stays there for awhile, the whine goes away completely.

Good to know. Thanks for checking on this for me. I think it has to do with the 6-phase voltage regulation on these boards since someone on another thread mentioned that the noise starts/stops when he uses the DES utility to toggle number of power phases used. I'm still undecided on this board. I may swap it for a Asus P5Q Pro if the noise starts to bug me too much.

    Which thread is that?

After investigating for a little bit, I found that if I turn off all the power management features in the advanced bios settings (C1E, C2E, EIST, etc), there's a lot less of this high-pitched sound. You may want to try to see if that helps, even if the system will use more power as a result.

Gigabyte really needs to learn how to design proper voltage regulation. I've never had these noise problems on any of my Asus or Abit boards.

I do not know if you can make out the BLUE heat sink in the picture, but that is the HEATSINK that was different from the Rev 1.0.

As for the heatpipe color ? It turned out to be the same as Rev 1.0. My oversight on this one...

Anyway, I will get the pics posted tonight.

P.S.: Thanks for all your help and others, my system was completed last night and is running stable. My kid is "happy" now that he can go back to his video game and shoot up some "alien zombies".

BTW, I do not know why my Rev 1.1 board did not come with the F4 BIOS like the other guy's board. It still had the F3 BIOS. But I am heeding well practiced advices of "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" and leaving the F3 BIOS alone.

Thank you "Senator Lsdmeasap" form Illinois.
I dont see any pics? And yes, I edited your post to see if the image was just not loading for me?

Thought maybe you had not posted a image in your post yet, but then you said "I do not know if you can make out the BLUE heat sink in the picture, but that is the HEATSINK that was different from the Rev 1.0." So I thought for sure you added a pic

Well no pic for now, but I guess I am lost as I thought the older version had a blue heatsink as well? Here is the old type, you post a pic of the new one for comparison >>

Well, here are the photos. Like I said, I forgot to take picture of the board BEFORE I installed it in the box. Better late than never, so I took pictures AFTER it got it all installed.

See the BLUE (perforated) heat sink just above the CPU fan? Compare the difference between that and the original Rev. 1.0 picture I posted. Definitely different type of heat sink. Newer one is not as "ridged or perforated (for lack of better description)" than the Rev 1.0 board.

Also notice the sticker in the LOWER Left corner of the board that shows the Rev 1.1. It was just sticki'ed iver, but nevertheless it said, REV 1.1.

Sorry it took me this long....

Thanks for refs. I've started undervolting the CPU to reduce power consumption while keeping C1E, etc., off. But I can still hear a very slight whine, enough to be annoying, at idle. Not having a cross-shipping RMA is annoying-- I'd rather not be without my mobo for weeks. If it's really bad, I'll just have to switch to a different brand mobo entirely, but then again, I've seen reports of some Asus P45 mobos also having these kinds of whine issues.

As for the new heatsinks, I too have the new Rev. 1.1 heatsinks.

You said your BIOS was F4, did you not? Mine was still F3. Wonder why they did not upgrade the BIOS on mine?

I guess I am lucky one ?, you can update from F3 to F4 if you want.

BTW, as long as you have rev 1.1, that is great and simple flash it to F4 solved problem.
