    Default occational lock ups

    I have ep45-ud3p with e7200 cpu and kingston hyperx so called pc2-8500 ram.
    system build is about 6 weeks old. after several unsuccesful attemps to changing memory settings to achieve 1066mhz, I gave up and reset my bios to default. BUT since them I have experienced infrequent random lockups and have to reboot. sometimes while on the internet sometimes gaming. My Os is XP sp3. The lock ups happen maybe 2 or 3 times in the course of a day, after a couple hours of computing. Also I reset from within bios I didn't play with the jumpers or pull the battery. I'm thinking something did not reset in bios or I damaged my memory . Any thoughts?

    Test memory with Memtest. How much memory are you using, as if you are using 4GB or more there are some settings that need to be changed.

    Please also provide a link to your memory product page, or list the main advertised timings and max voltage.

    2gigs dual channel kit khx85002k2/2gr.www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX8000D2K2_2G.pdf. I will run memtest now. and post result.

    If you are running your Ram at 800Mhz (which I believe you have defaulted to), you could try increasing the DDR2 Voltage from the default of 1.8volts to 1.9 or 2.0volts. As per the Data sheet, you may have to increase the voltage further to say 2.1/2.2volts to achieve 1066 at the advertised timings.

    So if memtests fails at 800 mhz, try setting Performance Enhance in the MIT section of the bios to Standard and increasing the DDR2 voltage by just 0.1volts and re-test.
    Hopefully this will reassure you that the board and memory are ok and that to achieve 1066Mhz, a bit more indepth tweaking will be required - but still achievable.

    i ran memtest for 4 hours and did not recieve any errors at default settings.

    Please post for me a link to your ram and tell me how much and what config (2x1/2x1/4x1) you have and post me your settings and I will advise you of full settings to work with, or just tell you if I see any issues with your settings if you would like >>>>

    Ok, I did make some progress. seems to be stable at 1066 with a change to 4.00 in the System memory multiplier and boosted the dram voltage to 2.2v. no other changes where made. ran thru memtest with 4 passes.
    Here is the link and my current settings.I have 2 1 gig sticks. I wouldn't mind getting my CPU to 3.0ghz if you think that would be fine with the OEM cooler.

    I find most lockups to be CPU related. usually when CPU Volts(vcore) is on auto. Try setting it to 1.225v.

    CPU Vcore….……….........................:1.20000v auto

    set this to 1.2250v and say a couple of prayers. hehe
