    Default amateur oc'er need help with oc.

    i have a gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3r motherboard and i'm trying to reach an oc of 4 ghz with an intel e8400 c0. my memory is 4gigs of corsair CM2x1024-8500C5D ver 1.2. if 4ghz can't be reached i would like to have at least 3.8.

    For a quick easy start just manually set your CPU volts (vcore) to 1.225 and set your CPU FSB to 400 and you should be good to go.

    You may want to manually set your memory timing as per your memory specs. mainly thee volts. Try to keep the memory @1:1 at first until you are stable, then bump your memory speed. Remember your memory runs twice the speed of your CPU FSB. so at 400FSB your memory runs at 800.

    II see you have two sets of memory so it will be extra work to get them to run at full speed. The memory is rated for only 2 and with 4 it adds an extra load of the North Bridge (NB). But at 1:1 ratio you should be fine up to about 450-500FSB with 4 sticks.

    I forgot to add to download some stress testings programs to make sure it is stable.

    First get CPU-z to provide info on your overclock.
    CPUID

    Real temp to monitor your CPU temperature.
    Real Temp - CPU temperature monitoring

    OCCT to stress your CPU. watch the heat when this runs!
    Download - OCCT Website english

    Mem Test to test your memory. Run this after/before OCCT. Do not run both at same time.

    do not try going past 400 without an aftermarket heatsink for your CPU. The stock one doesn't cool very well.

    i've gotten a stable oc with 3.75 ghz shown here. i will also have my bios settings for you also. thank you for the help. as for the memory
    Newegg.com - CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory. i have 2 sets of these.

    well here are my current bios settings.
    when i try 3.8 ghz my computer will boot to windows, but then freeze when inside windows. i think i can go a little higher at least 3.8-4.0 ghz.
    The temp threshold for me is 60 degrees celsius. thanks for the help.

    See the effects of Auto Vtt (Termination) with EasyTune 6, normally Auto at 3.8-4Ghz is 1.8-1.9 and 1.45 has been known to kill 45Nm CPU's
