Default GA-EP45 Extreme - Running Issues (ram related??)

    Hi guys

I know very little when it comes to these things but im not scared to try figure them out and play with settings.

I have just built (4 weeks ago) a New PC for Home after getting pissed off with the P3 750mhz we were surviving on up untill then

The Specs of what i Ordered are as follows

    - Intel E8500 Core 2 Duo 3.16GHz 6M 1333MHz 45nm
    - GIGABYTE EP45-EXTREME P45 + ICH10R 1600MHz
    - 2 x Kingston HyperX 2GB 1066MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 (ie 4 1gb Sticks) KHX8500D2K2/2G
    - 5 x Seagate 500GB SATA 32MB Cache 7200rpm (Running 2 in Raid 0 and the other three as normal)
    - SAPPHIRE RAEDON HD 4870 PCI-E 2.0 1GB GDDR5
    - Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
    - Silverstone Decathlon 750w PSU
    - Zalman Big Copper CPU Cooler Thingy...

    Now issue is..

Put one Chip in 1gb Computer Seems to Run Ok no Multiple attempts at booting ie the stupid logos blink up and the computer beeps and then it attempts to display the word

Memory Testing but i know its about to reset when it cant manage to place the "ting" after the "tes"

Add a secondary Chip in either Single or Dual Channel and the fun begins.. or even fill all channels with the 4gb i bought

The First Boot after altering Bios / What ever is expected but when it happens over and over and over again its a PITA

I tried inserting the correct Voltage/Timing Figures for the Ram... no Joy it attempts a couple of times and will boot once.. only if i completly power Down the entire System (ie unplugging the PSU and letting the Voltage dissapate)

I have already had a Replacement PSU and Mobo as they were beleived to be the cause of the annoying rebooting and innability to run the ram at its specified Parameters...

What can I do.. I was thinking of turfing the Hyper X and going for a 8gb total ram setup of something completly differnt instead...

Where do i start.. sorry if this makes no sence. im just peeved and lost.. but havent seemed to find any articles about memory issues with the EP45 Extreme..

Have you tried another set with memory?

Put only one stick in and do this >>>

Put performance enhance on standard and set Static tRead t0 10 for now, and then set your ram voltage, set MCH Voltage to 1.24, and put trfc to 54 and save and shut down and put in the other sticks and you should be ok.

If not, I would be testing these sticks with Memtest86+ on another system to be sure they are not faulty. Test one stick at a time

Hey mate.. that seems to have worked for now..

Althou the Ram refuses to run at 1066mhz.

i have dropped it back to 800mhz with all those other settings and for the moment.. it seems to be booting testing fine.. prime 95 isnt finding any errors etc..

still i think i will be going to another memory set that 8gb instead...

Cheers for your Help... as i dont understand how any of this shtuff works

Well if you cannot get 4GB stable you should not buy 8GB that is for sure as it will be harder to work with

If you need help getting 1066 to work please give me the full settings you are using and I will advise back >>>

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

XMP will only show up if your memory has been XMP/EPP programmed is why you do not see it

Have you tested this ram one stick at a time at stock in another system to be sure it is not DOA? If you do not have another system test in yours one stick at a time, with Manually set Memory Mutli to = Stock Ram speed (3.20B), Main Timings, Ram voltage and put performance enhance on standard >>>
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

    See how this helps >>>

    oky doky

we look to be up and running.. somewhat stable... Prime 95 has been going for ages no errors there yet.

Havent got another machine to test the ram with nor any Blank CDS to run memtest on.. will sort that out later on any way..

At the moment im running on all the higher settings you told me about..

Ive been checking in to the bios and rebooting alot to make sure the bios isnt tripping out and using standard options by its own choice.. (in the past it would say error has occoured due to O/C settings in here do not reflect current settings..

Here is a Screen Shot however i cant seem to find the magical 1066mHz figure any where when under windows.. althou Bios claims it to be...

and just for the hell of it.. here is my case lol

Memtest can be run from Floppy or USB Stick if you have those. USB would need to be made bootable first though. If you want to know about that let me know and I will make a guide for that or let you know how to do it and add that to the memory Thread (meaning to for a while and keep forgetting)

But, since prime is not giving you errors then your ram is likely fine for now

In CPU-z in the Memory Tab you see 533, that is your ram speed and it is 1066 (533x2 DDR2)
