    Hi there - very glad you got to my post. Was hoping for your help :)

    Unfortunately (fortunately?) I went off and purchased some new RAM. I went for the OCZ in the end.

    Well since you are using fail safe defaults and XMP Profiles you should be fine.

    If you do want to overclock or tweak things let me know. I do see you are overclocked already Please find and set your own Vtt (Termination) and PLL voltages or you will Kill your CPU as Auto WAY Overvolts them

    You should be starting with Optmized defaults and not fail safe (Dont forget to set yoru Disk settings again before you load windows if you load optimized)

    2.2V is not needed at all for your ram either, that is just the max allowed, and I do not suggest it without a fan directly over the ram

    I know you are stable, but I did have to make those suggestions. If you dont want to change things please do at least find and set your own Vtt and PLL, look in Easytune and you will see how they are being overvolted for sure

    Well, I'd like to start from scratch essentially.

    Thanks for the advice re: the VTT and PLL voltages - will manually set those.

    Should I reset to optimised defaults and go from there?
    I.e. start by seeing how far i can get my CPU up?

    Yes, load optimized and set your ram voltage ONLY. Then save/apply/reboot BACK to the BIOS and set your disk settings all again (DO NOT FORGET) and then you can move onto the MIT Section.

    Ya, you could do CPU First. TO do that set the ram on the 2.00B or 2.00D multi, performance enhance standard and then set the ram timings very loose. That way if you have errors you know it is the CPU or other voltages not the ram

    If you run into issues, post me the settings you try that fail and I will advise

    Okay, I have pushed the CPU only.

    I loaded optimised settings.
    I set the VTT and PLL as you advised.
    I also set the RAM voltage at 2.1V.
    I set the RAM at 2.00D, with timings 6-6-6-25. Verified all this with memset/cpu-z.

    I then upped the FSB. The highest I can get the CPU to clock is 3.50Ghz. And that is rock solid. If i push it even to 3.66Ghz, Orthos fails in ~20seconds.

    I have the CPU voltage at 1.375, and the MCH core at 1.40.

    I went and bought a tube of AS5 today. I think i will reseat the CPU cooler with the new thermal paste, just in case that is the source of problems.

    Any advice so far?

    What do you get in windows with CPU-z for that 1.375 vcore? It may be much lower then that which gives you plenty of room.

    What Vtt and PLL was you using in the above test?

    Vtt and PLL were set to 1.2V and 1.5V respectively.

    I did check CPU-z, and it reported only 1.44V getting to the CPU, so I upped the BIOS voltage to 1.425. Now CPU-z reports ~1.39V.

    The system is now stable at 3.66Ghz after the CPU voltage bump. Any upping of the FSB causes Orthos to fail, even if i 1:1 the RAM.

    Lsdmeasap, could you provide some insight as to why there is a difference between BIOS voltage and actual voltage?

    Also, what are the differences between locking in the ram at 2.00D versus say 2.00A. I.e. what difference does the 'A' or 'B' make? The BIOS does not explain this adequately.

    The A C D and B indicate the fsb that divider should be used with. "A" goes with 266, "B" goes with 333, "C" goes with 200, and "D" goes with 400. That's ddr2. The figures are different for ddr3.

    All bios I have encountered were innaccurate with voltages and temps, always a bit out. Put it down to "manufacturing tolerances" and "built to a price".

    LSD4Measap left a sticky at the top of forum explaining a hopefully temporary absence.
