    Default Can't run OCZ3G1600LV6GK at 1600 on GA-EX58-UD5

    • Memory:-OCZ3G1600LV6GK
    • Module size and kit size:-3x2GB
    • CPU model and rated speed:-i7 965
    • Overclocked CPU speed:-None
    • Motherboard and revision:-Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5
    • Motherboard Bios rev:-F3, F4
    • Power supply:-PC P&C Silencer 750
    • Operating System:-Vista 64 bit
    • CPU and System temps:-35-40C
    • Memory voltage:-1.64V
With this board and auto settings on CPU, QPI and uncore, I can't get the OCZ memory to run at its rated spec. Everything is fine if I leave the memory settings on auto. The memory comes up at 1066, 7-7-7-20, 1.5V, and the system is stable.

To increase the memory speed, the changes I make are: (a) raise the mem multiplier to 12 (bclk is auto at 133), (b) change timings on all channels to 8-8-8-24, (c) change "performance enhance" to standard, and (d) change the DRAM voltage to 1.64V. At this point, the box POSTs, but Vista hangs during startup almost every time.

I have tried increasing the voltage to 1.7V and loosening the timings to 9-9-9-24, which helps a bit, but the system is still unstable (frequent hangs during boot).

Are there some other RAM settings that I should be tweaking?

I just finished a build with the exact same MB and ram. I was just doing a search on google for my ram model number so my dad could buy some for his build. Glad I found this post and didn't tell him to get it.

I will give it a try tonight on my pc. I just got the thing built and haven't tweaked anything. Just left everything to auto. The whole reason I bought this memory was because I wanted it to be faster than "standard" !

Dang.. I am in the same boat..

I will let you know what I figure out if anything...

    good luck

Hmm, that's interesting...I thought I might have a bad board or something.

I have a thread with the same title over at ocztechnologyforum detailing what I have tried so far. Still no luck :-(

Cool. Thanks for that. Now I won't need to go threw all of the things you went threw in case mine doesn't go up to 1600.

I haven't looked at the bios at all except to change the boot order. So I will need to get in there and give it a try.

I must say that I am newb when it comes to this. This is my first build in over 6 years. Even at the default memory settings, this thing is like a super computer to me.

I will give it a shot in about 2 hours when I get home. I will let you know.

Maybe mine will work and it will save you time trying to figure it out and you can just RMA it.

Our ram is suppose to have ECP (or something) settings to talk to the MB doesn't it? Does our MB have this?

Here is a post of my build.

I mentioned your problem and posted a link to your other thread. Hopefully someone will have some solutions to offer.

I set the memory multiplier to 12 and left everything else as is. Like I said. I really don't know what I am doing yet, so maybe I didn't do everything I was suppost to ? Anyway. I set it to 12 and it gave me a 1600 speed.

So if I did everything correctly then, my memory is ok and you might have some bad stuff. I played far cry for about 15 mins to make sure it was stable and it was.

Here are some pics of the settings and cpuz info

Well, I haven't tried 10-9-9-25 yet, maybe I'll give that a shot. Can you boot consistently into Windows (say 5-10 times in a row)?

You should at least increase the DRAM voltage to 1.64V. That may help tighten up the timings some. The memory is rated at 8-8-8-24, so that's what you should aim for.

Update: 10-9-9-25 doesn't work for me. So definitely a bad component somewhere.

Make the command rate 2T instead of 1T. Same problem just the memory was corsair.
The corsair XMP profile makes it 8.8.8.24 2T
    Best of luck
