    Default GA EP45C-DS3R & Corsair XMS3 DDR3

    I recently built a new pc and have never come accross a BIOS with so many options for tweaking. Someone please tell me you know the settings to get this thing running at it's full potential! I'm about to pull my hair out!
    EP45C-DS3R
    Intel Q9300
    Corsair XMS3 1600

    Here is how it is running now. It isn't completely stable.
    I would like to get the memory to about 1700 mhz and the processor to about 3.0 ghz, and I know it can be done, I just can't do it.

    Start By Load optimized defaults as I see you have loaded fail safe instead. After you do this you will have to set your SATA/disk settings again. So please start there, load optimized, set your RAM Voltage ONLY and save/apply/reboot BACK to the BIOS and then set your SATA Settings again.

    Please give me a link to your ram and tell me how much of it you have

    Then save and apply/reboot and here is some ranges you should be working from >>

    Thank you so much for responding! You have no idea how many settings I have tried, then reset cmos....again, and again.....you know what I'm talking about. I must have accidently set it to safe defaults. What I've been doing is loading optimized defaults, then slowly tweaking each of the settings accordingly. This isn't my first or second overclock, just my first that is this difficult. Alright, I'm going to try what you said and see what happens with it and get back to you. The memory is this pair here, the max this mobo can handle of ddr3 (4 gb). I have read that this mem has run stable at 2 ghz, all I want is like 16-1800. Again, thank you so much I was about to throw this POS out the effin window. Oh yeah, one more thing. I accidently (only once) set the bus speed to 350 and left the PCI e at auto for about 30 minutes, and noticed some clicking noise. Do you think my poor 4870 is gonna be damaged at all?

    Ya, I know the drill! I am used to it myself, but I do for sure. That is how I could tell you had set fail safe

    Your board can handle 16GB of ram, just so you know. Ohh yeah, but you are right only 4GB of DDR3.. Sorry for my wandering thoughts, you know what you are talking about

    I think your card will be fine, just be sure you dont run like that always or often. I have used 112 myself for bench's before without issue, but as you know it may not be safe to HDD's or GFX cards

    So, how did your tweaking/testing go with this?

    Yeah, it kinda sucks about the ram. I keep thinking I may be better off swapping the ddr3 for 8 or 16 gigs of some 1066 ddr2 and oc'ing it to around 1600. What's your opinion on that line of thought?
    Alright, I have tried it a few more ways with NO success, going along the guedelines you suggested. I don't have time right now to post all of the options/settings, but, basically, I set everything on the list above to the #'s it said and where a variable was involved I have tried middle and high #'s, respectively with each other. Bus was always at 401, PCIe at 100, and so on but memory volt. 1.8, 1.82, etc... So variables where you said 1.5-1.6, 10-12, 8-10 I used 1.5,11,10 and then 1.6,12,10. Does that make sense? I will have time later to post the settings. Thank you for helping me!

    I dont think you will get 8GB of DDR2 to 1600Mhz at all, maybe 2x1GB if you got the best and had it on Ln2

    The amount of ram limits the overclock, and most DDR2 speeds that a normal user would get/use daily would be 1150-1250 or so

    Try these changes >>>>
    CPU Clock Skew (ps)....................: 50-150
    MCH Clock Skew (ps)...................: 150-250

    Driving Strength Profiles
    Driving Strength ............................ OC-1333 or higher should be one of your choices.

    MCH/ICH
    MCH Core……………..... << Try 1.05, and then if no luck (Just try it as I have seen it help for some reason?) and then try 1.22/1.24/1.32/1.35

    And if you still have no luck you should try using 398-399 FSB since you are using the B strap, or move down to the 3.33D Strap as it would be more stable over 400 FSB

    OK. I will stay away from ddr2 then. I have tried all of the suggested settings to no avail! I have also tried a lot of other things with no luck. Now my XP partition is crapping out on me, which is the OS I use, so now I have to use vista. Bummer.
    For some reason, the only setting I have for driving strength is auto. Also, what should the command rate be? That is one of the settings I don't understand. For what it's worth, here is what I have it running at now, along with cpuZ and ET6 info. The site would only let me upload 1 image. Thanks again for all your help, you are the man.
