Alan I would update it to the F7 Update using QFLASH. Do not use @BIOS. Sorry if my last comment sounded sarcastic, I did not intend it to be. I should read things out loud or at least in my head before I post. I have the same board with the E8500 and it was doing some wierd things (unrelated to fatal failure) before I updated it to F7. Its definatly the way to go. Just get a USB stick, Format it to FAT 32 and extract the F7.exe to the USB Drive, then Press, is it F9 on startup to enter QBIOS and flash from USB HDD and it will show the file there .F7. flash that and once it is done restart the computer (esc) and then enter the BIOS and load Optimum Defaults. Then Once you restart set all your OC settings and RAM timmings back to how you had them. Note: You must have detect USB HDD enabled to flash from the USB, but once you have loaded ur defaults and restarted you can go and turn it off and you probably will never need it again until you need to flash or something. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank You so much, you have really been helpful, and I really appreciate it, I am 65 years old and this has been the only thing that I have a taken a true interest in, in many years. This is a great forum and members like you are the reason.

Thanks Alan, I appreciate your comments. I have a deep interest in this sorta of thing. I dont know everything and im relativly new to the modern day overclocking, but I am a fast learner and the fact that we have the same board should prove helpful in the future for both of us.. Keep me updated on your progress. If you get something like a Checksum Error once you have restarted after a BIOS update, go into your BIOS and check your date and time, but always remember to reload optimum defaults firstly after a flash.

Hi, guys, I have a question. i am currently using F5 with a Q9300 @ 3.0Ghz 8Gb Adata DDR1066 FSB set to 1600. I tried using latest bios, but system won't post unless stock settings are used. I have gone back to F5 again but I do get a ocasional startup crash, not often, system rock solid with prime95 etc. I do notice everytime bios posts my AHCI settings change from 10 to 16 registers as I have this enabled for Plug N play Esata backup drive. If I update again & disable Ext HDD, do you think this will fix my overclock issue? Oh also I am using the Giga raid setup with stripe 0 (2x 1TB samsungs), when I update bios will this lose my raid settings, so I would have to setup again? I tried once before & did lose settings but I think I ballzd everything up though trying to overclock on updated bios.

    Cheers

When you flash your Bios anytime you should after the restart go into the BIOS and load Optimum defaults first. Then Save and restart, then you can go and set up your raid again, and any other settings you have with ur over clock. Just make a note of the settings you have now, and put the very same settings back when you flash to F7. I would give F7 another go and make sure you load the defaults after the first restart first. My Board Didnt detect my 45nm Processor correctly until I went to F7. But with the not posting, Id sit there with some paper and write out every setting on every pages and make sure you set it all back up exactly the same again after your flash to F7. try it. Back up important stuff before trying anything though, just in case.

Gee, 2 * 1tb hard drives in Raid 0 is quite a bit of data to be using in a RAID 0 setup. I would seriously reconsider this setup.

hey Guys's, thanks for the info. So i am going to have to set my Raid up again, which will mean i will have to reinstall again, thats OK as i have a 2x 1tb Esata raid 0 backup drive with complete image of PC. in regard to F7, I did reset all settings back to opt, then went from there with my F5 settings, but no post unless all stock. i backed off everything from original F5 overclock settings, but nothing, thats when i saw issue with Ext HDD boot enabled, I thought this might be my prob. I didn't want to go through reinstall again if overclock settings wouldn't work, then back to F5 again. i built system for specifically overclocking to save some bucks with bigass cooler, 1000w p/s etc.
But may be time to have another crack at it. might try F8a

    cheers for input.
