Default GA x48 DS5 Overclocking Issues.

    G'day all,

I can't seem to overclock the above board through the bios (q6600) at all. My pc will not boot if I adjust any settings that aren't stock. Using Easy Tune 5 though I can get the CPU to 3.0ghz stable and 800mhz RAM to 1000mhz.
I just can't seem to get any overclock to work through the bios.

I used to have an XFX 680i LT which used to run the CPU at 3.1ghz without a problem.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers!
    Sean.

Hmm, What BIOS Version are you Running. It would probably help more if you also showed us all the settings in the M.I.T that you are trying to use. I would first make sure you are using atleast the F7 BIOS. Flash Using QBIOS and a fat 32 USB. But just for interest post up the settings you are using in the M.I.T Section.

After 2 days of frustration I stumbled across a post in another forum, and found that by disabling usb hdd detect in bios all is well!

Gee its great when things like this happen! It almost makes all the heartache worthwhile...

Funnily enough, I got it working about the same time you were responding to my post NIM..

    Loving this mobo now!

Lol thats great news mate. Im not so fortunate though, My X48-DS5 is in the Post on its RMA trip for various problems. Hopefully when I get a new board it will be all good. I think I might Flash the Bios then Disable USB HDD Detect. lol.

If you disabled USB hdd detect, you wouldnt be able to use an external hdd, is this correct?

It probably would disable my USB printer on startup also. I dont think I would like that.

I'm pretty sure all it does is detects them later.. not part of initial start up.
I was noticing that after overclocking it wouldn't even get to the mem test. I then found a post on another forum having a similar problem but different board.. so I gave it a go and voila! The board keeps my q6600 at 3.2ghz now and has been rock solid. Have no adverse effects on my external usb drives either.

Do you do much printing from the BIOS or DOS?? It wont effect your printer operations at all. Its only stops the BIOS detecting a USB drive on startup of the system, IE Cant use a USB stick for Qflash, but when you get to bindows all is normal. So dont stress. I have actually read on many threads to disable this setting after you flash the bios cause it mess's with stuff.

Thanks, I might just try this. I am still using the original Bios, but will update soon. Thankyou.
