    Default Help to overclock q9550 to 3.6 or higher

    Hi i am trying to overclock to 3.6 i can run it at 3.4 stable but i cant get it stable at 3.6 i would like to go higher than that but 3.4 is all i can get at the moment

    Did you read through the thread I linked you to in your other post? All kinds of settings and tips in there. http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/ud3p-q9550-sweet-29409/

    You don't need 1.59 CPU PLL. Leave it at 1.50. Set ICH I/O and core back to stock also. You most likely need more Vcore, I would imagine at 1.275 you are actually down near 1.22-1.23 at idle and 1.20 or less under load. The vid for your chip is 1.25 and I doubt it's going to run at 3.6 or better without either enabling LLC or raising Vcore over 1.30. Use CPU-Z to see what your Vcore is at idle and under load and raise Vcore until you are at least 1.25 under load. Also, as you raise the FSB you will need more CPU termination and MCH voltage. Try 1.30 for each with the corresponding reference voltages at 0.863. If that works enable the half multiplier and test it. That'll get you to 3825 MHz at 450FSB.

    flyfisher my friend... i'm running same CPU & same MB at a stable 3.8ghz ... with no LLC Enabled and CPU VCORE at 1.28125V... so it can be done .

    let me just tell you it's 100% stable on my machine ...but still from time to time...every two days I'm lowering one of the values.. and see how it affect the system.. if it stays stable then i leave it ...if not.. i raise it back...
    so those settings are not yet maximum performance at minimum voltage.

    I just went straight for 4GHz (475 x 8.5) since I knew my chip was probably a good one... vid is 1.2125V... it takes 1.3125 Vcore with LLC disabled. This gives about 1.26 idle and 1.22 load in Windows. With LLC enabled I set Vcore to 1.25 which gives 1.22 idle and load. Prime stable with small, large and blend, and 20 passes of Linpack. I had to play with the vtt, MCH and reference voltages but overall it was a fairly easy OC, much more so than the Q6600 it replaced.

    @andypepp - if my settings worked at 450 x 8 why not try 450 x 8.5 to get to 3.8? Or try nafroman's or my settings for 475 FSB.

    I tryed overclocking to 3.8 by either increasing it to 475 but as soon as i get it into prime it crashes straight away here are my settings could you tell me were i might be going wrong

    had to increase the ich i/o to 1.570
    and ich core to 1.200 and have llc enabled to run it at 3.6 which it did 10 hours on prime no probs
    any help much appreciated
