Default Cooler for UD3R, E8500 Antec 900 - lots of drives

    GA-EP45-UD3R (ordered)
E8500 (still shopping in the light of Intel price drops -seems to affect mostly quads)
    Antec 900 case (being shipped)
    Mushkin black 2 x 2gb 1066 RAM
    2 x DVD burners
    5 x WD black Caviar HDD 640gb-1TB
    Corsair 750W (ordered)

I need a cooler that works for sure with this board and case - and will fit with all the drive cabling! Is the size of the cooler an issue?

Im looking at the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283, but I use multiple hard drives for my workstation (5 HDD + 2 DVD burners - and I burn 2 at a time for work lol) - so Im concerned about space in the case due to all the cables.

Should I consider a small cooler? for example: Is there room for the XIGMATEK 92mm smaller version work for me? Will that work on my board and processor (weird, the 92mm version does not list the E8500 Duo Core!) or this Arctic: Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Reality check - is this a real problem? I dont know. I will do mild overclock. If you have done this, please show and tell lol

    Photos welcome!

    EVGA 512-P3-N975-AR GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP
    Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N975-AR GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

I have used the Freezer 7 and have only good things to say about it. You can mount it depending on which way your case will exhaust. One thing to keep in mind is the EP45-UD3P and UD3Rs are a bit more cramped around the cpu heatsink area, so make sure you have enough case ventilation.

Also, long video cards get along well with these series of mobos.

How did the Freezer 7 fit your preferences better than the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 ?

Oh, update on video card choice: Im liking this:

The Freezer 7 is going to be more compact than that Dark Knight from Xigmatek. Which is why I chose it, I have a smaller Lian-Li case. That Xigmatek one will be TALL, but looks like it may keep around the same footprint as the Freezer 7, I think by sheer looks it has a lot of potential.

As for the video card, I am extremely impressed with ATI/AMD's offerings in the HD 4XXX series. I think you will get better performance with the ATI over the Nvidia you chose. Not to mention, keep more cash in your wallet too! :)

I order CPU e8500 and video card tonight!

Final pieces for first build! E8500 intel has good benchmarks for Photoshop that's why I choose it!

which of these coolers has the most well-designed mounting method? In reading the reviews at Newegg, some users find the Artic 7 connectors a pain. Is that true? If yes, what is a cooler with a better mounting design, even "bolt-through."

I'm using the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 with an EP45-DS3R (similar layout to the -UD3R) in an Antec 300 case. Disk drive cabling is no issue because the disks are down and forward and the CPU up and back (though the +12V line runs right over the top of the Xigmatek), and the two fans at the top and rear of the case work very nicely to get the hot air out. The 900 is bigger so I can't imagine cabling being a problem.
