Default P35C-DS3R and AHCI (after install) - bit confused :-)

    Hi,

Checked my registry (vista64) last night and the msahci/start key was set to 0. Super!
Rebooted and set everything to AHCI mode (gigabyte and intel controllers) and made sure that 0-3 run in native mode.
But my sytem just gets stuck in a rebooting loop then, never makes it to the windows scrolly bar startup screen.
I do have a dvd-rw and my HD connected to the intel controller.

Do I need to move one/both to the gigabyte raid controller?
Am I missing a bios setting?

(will post HD detail when I get home later :-)

    Cheers

If you disable AHCI, ie go back to how your PC was setup (sata native), then does it work correctly again? (ie no reboots etc)

Right, did lots more testing last night (LOTS MORE haha)

Set the intel controller to IDE and it booted up ok.
    Installed the gigabyte raid drivers.
Shutdown and moved the HD and DVD to the gigabyte Sata Ports (purple ones)
Enabled GB controller in bios and set to RAID mode.
PC booted ok, but Everest showed that the drive still wasn't using NCQ (but shows as supported)

Tried to install the intel ahci driver but as the controller was still in IDE mode it said "not found"
Rebooted and enabled AHCI on intel controller (but with nothing connected to it)
Into Vista fine and installed the AHCI drivers no probs.

Power off, shift the HD to the Intel controller now, starts to boot
Gets to Green scrolling bar and reboots, just loops here.
If I disabled AHCI again on the Intel controller windows starts fine.

    * Yep I have checked that the reg setting for MSAHCI is set to 0 for Start.
    * Tried on both controllers
    * Works ok on the GB controller in raid mode
    * Works ok on the Intel controller in IDE mode
    * Reboots constantly on Intel controller in AHCI mode
    * Drivers for intel and GB installed in Vista
    * HD in question is Maxtor Diamondmax 10 6V250F0 250GB

try reinstalling windows with AHCI enabled in the BIOS... I had the exact same issue recently. I went back, enabled AHCI, and then reinstalled windows and everything worked fine.

    doh!
Was hoping i could cheat around it without having to re-install :-)

Thanks anyway, might leave it in IDE mode until my system needs a real clean out, or SSD's come down in price (which might make it redundant anyway hehe)

    Cheers
