Default No Fan RPM readouts on X48-DS5

    G'day

I have 2 Arctic Cooling PWM 120mm fans mounted in my case; one on a Thermalright Ultra120 (plugged into the CPU_FAN header) and one blowing the video card from the side of the case (plugged into SYS_FAN2). I have no readout for the fan rpm in the BIOS or in any windows-based program despite the fact these are 4-pin fans plugged into 4-pin headers on the m/b. There is a listing in the BIOS for the both the above fans however they all read 0RPM regardless of actual fan speed.

I can't find any settings/options which would affect this; does anyone have any clues/ideas/suggestions on how to get a readout?

    Cheers.

Seeing that they are 120mm fans, it could be that their low(er) rpm might be too low for the bios to report.
You could also see if there is a bios release that may address this. For instance some fans might give more pulses per revolution than others.

To try and prove a point, in the bios you should be able to take the CPU fan out of AUTO mode (ie so it doesn't relate to temperature) and set it so it's "Flat OUT". I'm guessing that your 120mm fans top RPM is around 1500-2000, so that should be dispayed, if they are four wire PWM fans.

Also the forums search feature has been updated, so you can use small character length entries now, such as "X48 fan" (no quotations)

Btw, if you do go down the bios update route for any reason, please use Q-Flash, which is prefered over @bios.

Cool. I'm at F7 now, there is a beta F8a- you would recommend going to a beta BIOS to see what happens?

No to be honest I wouldnt recomment going ot F8a I was at F7 And all was sweet. Do you happen to have the stock intel cooler. see if that gives you a RPM. have a look in the MB Health BIOS screen. I have a ASUS Artic Square Cooler and the Gigabyte Posiedon case Fans and it shows RPM for all those just fine. The front and back case fans are running on the same circuit which is ok I guess. it seems to be sufficient. but atlease it shows the RPM. Try a Stock intel cooler and if it doesnt show you RPM in MB Health in The BIOS then RMA the board.

P.S Perhaps Reflash the BIOS with QBIOS and then go in and set OPTIMUM Defaults and see what you get. Make sure your clock is set to correct time and date.
