    Default EP45-UD3R Raid 0

Is there any performance gains to go to Raid 0, with this board. I have (2) 1TB WD drives. Everthing I read just says how hard it is for users to configure? Dave.

Theoretically with Raid0 the gain could be to cut in half the HD access time.
The bad thing is if one is damaged all the data will be lost.
Do a Google on the word "raid0" and you will found tons of references about.

I see you are using Raid 0 on your system. How hard is it to setup on my board? Its confusing, I`ve read some say use purple ports some say do not? and the manual is hard to follow. Dave.

Overclocker Cafe - What exactly is RAID??

Good explanation, I want to do, but I wish there was an easy way to do with this board?

its the same as any board. Just set it to Raid in the bios, then hit "Ctrl+I" at the boot screen to access the raid bios and make a new raid array. Then Install windows(for XP hit "F6") for Vista select load drivers. Install the drivers and finish the install.

Just be aware that if you OC too far or reset CMOS dont try to boot to windows before remembering to enable raid in the bios again or you will corrupt the raid bios and maybe not get to windows.

I have never had an issue on my old DFI board if I forgot to enable it, I went back and it worked fine. However I did once thus far loose my array and have to reinstall windows

    Question Re: EP45-UD3R Raid 0

Thanks for all the info. I will try it out on my other system. The other thing do I use the intel drivers for raid or the Gigabyte? Also on the WD 1GB drives vista did not recognize them? do you guys leave smart enabled? Dave

use the intel drivers for RAID set up on the ICH10R - the gigabyte ports are not very fast and you won't see much advantage over a single disc. Vista should recognize them - if they are Caviar Black those are very reliable, however in RAID 0 you do double your chance of a failure.

BTW if you do use raid be aware that on mine I cannot boot into memtest from a bootable CD unless I turn disable raid in bios. It just hangs at loading dos from the CD. Turn it off and works no issue, very strange till I figured it out.

Its strange my last board didnt do it.
