Default GA-EX58-UD5 boot behaviour strange when using 1600MHz RAM

    Hello,

until now, I have been unable to find details to the boot behaviour my GA-EX58-UD5 (flashed to F4 release BIOS) shows with one Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D memory module.

If I activate XMP or set the multiplier manually for the RAM to work with 1600MHz (doesn't matter what VDIMM voltage is set to) the problem occurs. The board starts to boot, fans are spinning up, LEDs are lit. After a couple of seconds, everything stops again, fans stop turning and LEDs switch off. But the board fires up again after a moment and then starts fine up until hard disc boot time which naturally fails, as there is no HD connected yet. This only happens from cold boot, after a reset, boot does not show that.

If I use factory settings, that is 1033 MHz for the memory, all is fine and the boot is smooth.

I have been told that this intermediate shutoff is a test procedure new with i7, could you confirm that and maybe even give an explanation what exactly is happening there?

    Kind regards,
    Frank

From the problems I had before this is "nothing", but I can confirm that when using the 1600Mhz memory my rig starts and then shuts off for a couple of seconds then it will boot fine all the way in to windows7 (at the moment)

    I'm on the F5g bios

Following some information I received - did you set your values manually, replacing the AUTO ones for the 1600 MHz? Or did you leave it to AUTO?

    Kind regards,

I am seeing the same behavior here on a EX58-UD3R. It wasn't happening when the memory was set below 1600MHz (3x2GB OCZ DDR3 1600Mhz (Gold)), but noticed it after bumping it up (not AUTO, no XMP). I didn't think too much about it since it subsequently boots all the way through, and I'm using S3 suspend most of the time and it obviously doesn't happen when resuming from sleep.

The new bios F6a fixes this problem for me. No more power on and fast shutdown

    thanks bios team

Mine still does the same with the F6a bios, hopefully a future bios will cure mine.

These issues are solved with F6a for the UD5, provided correct settings are applied
