Default AHCI - enabling after installing OS

Is it possible to enable AHCI in the bios, after installing Vista 64? I've heard from people that this needs to be done prior to installing the OS. Is this true? Currently I have it disabled, and would like to enable it.

Was just reading this, and it seems like if you change that registry value, then reboot and go into bios to enable it, all should be fine. Is this true?

NM. Seems to work. AHCI is up and running with no issue.
