    With this I also got a question (sorry for the loads of questions): Is it safe to raise Voltages like Vtt and MCH Core, especially the MCH core because that has stock cooling. Again CPU is cooled by CM Hyper Z600 1fan. Just worried about my hardware .

    I wouldn't worry about the temp of the MCH, it's no problem if it gets a little hotter.

    For voltages I'd go up to about +0.25V on Termination (VTT) and MCH Core for 24/7 use. Whatever people tell you here though is only an opinion, nobody really knows hoch much voltage is "safe" here. Termination is a know CPU killer though, so be especially careful with increasing that and never leave it on Auto (Auto will icnrease it a lot when overclocking).

    So.. what do you mean with +0.25V? just as simple as 'raise Vtt with 0.25V?'

    And what is a MCH Core for 24/7 use.. what would be a good settings if I want to get more out of my memory? Nickel, do you suggest higher MHz of RAM speed or change all values so that I can lower my tRD (tRead) value..?

    I'll wait for your answer .

    Hope to hear again from you soon with settings for or higher MHz (but I saw that it isn't a great performance boost), or settings for a better tRD/tRead value.

    This is confusing, what are you really using for each of these, it can only be one or the other? If you are using 400 FSB (Host Freq) then I suggest you try 399 or 401 so you are not right on the strap>>>

    CPU Frequency ...........................: 446 (466x9 = 4.0GHz)

    CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ............: 400Mhz
    Since you are using 1.35 vcore, I would suggest you try 1.22-1.28 Vtt

    I would raise your tWR for sure, that may be why you are having to use such high values for some of the others. Maybe 8-10 tWR would allow lower values for the others. And tRFC would need to be 80+ Likely for 8GB, try 88 and see how that affects you ability to lower other settings, and stability. Then you may be able to lower it later to 72-82 or so.

    Once you get those settings fixed, and maybe lower a few others, you may be able to use tRD of 8-9, less then that on the on the D Strap will depend on your memory itself, and voltages applied. But you may not get 8 to work at all with 8GB without extreme voltages. However, if you can get the B strap working for you, again this would be largely dependent on the ram itself, you may be able to use tRD 7-8 for 8GB

    I would also raise these abit for stability >>

    Other then that, you may also need to find a proper MCH Ref amount for your setup, see my signature for how to setup that voltage

    As said above there is no Known safe temps, only a general consensus of what people use/have used. Per Intel's documents the MCH Max is 1.21, and Vtt is 1.45

    Max suggested for Air cooling is as follows:

    Vtt kept under 1.4 is best as this also affects several Ref. Voltages, and more then 1.35 is not needed anyway until after 500+ FSB

    MCH keep under 1.4 on air. You may need 1.35 or so for 8GB.

    And I do suggest if you are up for it to redo the thermal paste under there as it is normally not applied very well and is also usually very thick. If you do redo the paste, be sure you use NON Conductive and be very careful as that is a bare silicon chip under there. You could also look into getting a aftermarket NB Cooler, I have used these on a few builds, it is very nice and helps temps alot (Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II CL-C0034)>>>

    Hi Lsd, :)

    Sorry for the incorrect changes!

    The CPU and FSB are 446MHz. So 446x9=4.0GHz.

    I will try the suggested values you gave me.

    Will I need that NB cooler for sure or is it VERY SMART (and cool) to have it. If so I'll be willing to buy it. How easy is it to install the NB cooler?

    If you need the NB Cooler or not is up to you, does your board have the

    How hot does your NB get? Can you touch it for more then 10 seconds under a full load? If not, you may want to at least redo the paste, then decide if you need a NB Cooler or not. It is very easy to install, just two bolts is all

    What do you not get about MCH Ref? Did you read the page linked in my signature? You may be fine with it in Auto, but then again maybe not?

    Did you mean to add a note or something to these? Looks like you forgot or something maybe? I thought that because you put the <<< 's but nothing after them, so just checking >>>

    ICH I/O you only have 1.57, not 1.50-1.55? 1.55 is only suggested to improve stability from the 1.5 stock. You can use 1.57, but you should have 1.55 as well, maybe not? All boards are different

    Ok, I get it about the NB cooler. I'll check that later..

    About the MCH Ref, yes I read your article yesterday. Maybe it's because of my english. I'm not that good at it. I'll read it again.. you never know.

    I posted <<< to let you see that I changed the values, but I can see that it isn't nessacery. Sorry for being messy the last post. I'll try to do things 'cleaner' next time!

    About ICH I/O.. I got 1.50V and the next value is 1.57V, so not 1.55V. Then I will change it to 1.57V.

    So thanks for now, I have to get to school.. BORING (overclocking is much more fun!!!)

    I held my finger at the NB under full load. I could touch it with no problem.. . Ofcourse I felt some heat, but not much (yet).

    EDIT: Tried 8 with same settings, didn't boot. Should I try raising MCH core? and other settings??

    Or first go for 2.40B SPD multi instead of 2.00B? would that work?

    Hi,

    I've just tried a SPD of 2.40B, also tried a lower tRD value. With this I tried a Voltage of 1.36V max. on the MCH core..

    Again.. wouldn't boot, are we at the end of overclocking for the memory..

    If so I'll try change some advaced memory timings...

    You may need to test out less MCH core, and more Vtt. Try some combinations of those with more/less and see if you can get tRD down to 8. If not yes, try more MCH Core, maybe 1.3-1.35, I think your other ram timings are not causing it to not work. It is either your ram amount, choice of model, or the other voltages.

    You should also test all of this Vtt/MCH Core with MCH Ref in Auto to see if that helps as you really might not need to set it until you get your settings all finalized

    You should be able to use 7-8 easy on the B Strap, but then again you may not be able to with 8GB?? Sorry I have not tested much with 8GB, this may be one thing that is limited by that amount?
