Default DVD drive issue: GA-EP45-UD3P..please help!!

I have recently built a new computer with GA-EP45-UD3P. My IDE sony dvd drive shows as "SCSI cdrom" and does not read dvds. However my sata LG DVD is detected as ATA device and works fine.

My sony drives works fine in my old PC. I tried uninstalling and rebooting but ended up with same problem. Please help!!

I noticed that my BIOS is set to 'SATA IDE Cntr Mode' to "IDE". There are two other options "AHCI" and "RAID/IDE". Should I choose any other option to fix this issue?

Looks like Vista is installing the drivers for the Gigabyte (jmicron) controller. This is why the OS sees it as an SCSI device. But is should read DVDs. Where is the DVD drive on the IDE cable (master or slave) and is it jumpered correctly? Have you tried another cable? I am using XP and have installed the jmicron driver and my BenQ IDE DVD-RW works fine. I tried AHCI but then the DVD-RW wasn't detected. If your drive is jumpered correctly and the cable is OK then I would try IDE/RAID.

Thanks..I have tried different cables. My drive is set to "Master". Few questions:

    1) I am not using Giabyte ports. Should I disable those ports from Bios?

    2) Should I disable jmicron controller from device manager?

    3) I have multiple Sata drives but not using RAID. If I switch to "IDE/RAID" , what happens to existing drives?

Here is what I did and my problem got resolved. Is this correct? I hope I did not mess up anything.

    1. Go to "device manager"
    2. Expand the "storage controllers" node
    3. Right click on "Gigabyte Controller" device and select "update driver software"
    4. Select "browse my computer for driver software"
    5. Select "let me pick from a list..."
    6. Select "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller"
    7. Commit the changes and restart your Vista

You must have the Gigabyte ports enabled because the jmicron controller also provides the IDE port. What you did is perfectly fine, using a standard IDE driver for the controller. Good thinking. Glad you got it working.
