Default GA-EP31-DS3L prime stable but wont hold overclock

I have a ep31-ds3l rev 2.0 which overclocks to custom settings only if you run the board a little while on stock settings then reboot to an overclock which I stabilized with prime95 blend test. Another thing I noticed is that if for instance you applied stock settings of other processors faster than it at stock in its strapping to the bios it will boot right into those settings whether stable or not thus effectively overclocking my processor but not my own custom settings. My question is why does this board behave this way? How do I get it to work with my settings?

I'd hate to bump but have to do it coz I need that help.

    specs:
    E4400
    GA-EP31-DS3L
    1GB PC2-5300 Samsung
    400w PSU

Able to boot into 1.8,2.1,2.4,2.66ghz (other intel core 2 specs as they are) with/without stability but not a prime stable freq I stabilized.

Again, very sorry for missing your post when I got back. There was so many I just asked users to please kindly bump their threads when I returned, and you must have missed my post about that.

So sorry again, and I can help for sure

Please give me a link to your ram or the model # if you do not have a link.

Then give me your full settings you want to use that are failing for you and I will advise back >>>

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours

Hi, I feel relieved finally hear from you. Now am hopeful!
In the process of changing my ISP, so I hope you dont mind the response time, will have to go back home to try out anything you suggest. + there are some questions I really would like answers to and yes they are relevant to this post.

Right now am running at 2.67ghz (34% overclock) totally effortlessly with 100% stability! One thing is for sure - this board is good coz I am overclocking without overvolting the ram nor northern bridge for that.(something other boards may need).
Below is what it takes to get to 2.9ghz 8hrs+ prime stable but no straight cold boot unless the pc runs alittle while on stock or its own favourite overclock speeds like 2.67ghz or others mentioned above then boots to overclock profile shown below

    Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [10]
    CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [290]
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100] This just wont boot at all if increased even by 1mhz
    C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplier_____ (SPD)__ [2.5]
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]
    memory frequency (mhz)______ 800___ [725]
    Performance Enhance = [Standard]

    CAS Latency Time________________ [Auto]
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________[Auto]
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______ [Auto]
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ [Auto]

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ [Auto]
    Rank Write to READ Delay________[Auto]
    Write to Precharge Delay_________ [Auto]
    Refresh to ACT Delay______________ [Auto]

    DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [Normal]
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [Normal]
    FSB OverVoltage Control___ [Normal]
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V]
    CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.34375V] ......Bios read voltage ________ +1.316V, DDR18v _______+1.952V

Limit CPUID Max. to 3.....................: [Disabled]
    No-Execute Memory Protect............: [Enabled]
    CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Enabled]
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) ...........: [Enabled]
    CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled]

    Legacy USB Storage Detect___________________[Disabled]

I made sure I didnt install the overclocking software that comes with the board coz it just seemed to make things worse and partitioned my drive specifically for bios updates. I never use @bios.
Oh yah! the questions, I ask?

My ram now is enfinion and is faster even in the benches but physically it reads 667mhz 1.8v but 800mhz ,1.952v in the bios

Ya, it is not advised to install drivers from the CD, or use Express install on it. The drivers on the CD are always old, and the Express installs all drivers whether you need them or not and that causes issues because it does install RAID Drivers

It did not partition your Drive for BIOS updates, it partitioned it for Express Recovery which is a system backup program. You will need to do a clean install and blow both partitions away if you want that corrected. If not, no big deal

PCIE Freq should not be increased. 100 is suggested

Your cold boot issues and other issues may be caused by all your AUTO Settings. If you give me the model # on your ram, or a link I can give you some suggested settings. Also tell me what CPU speed you want me to make the settings for. And so you know you will need to set/increase voltages likely as well to overcome your cold boot when overclocked issue.

What BIOS are you using anyway?

I am on FC bios since I didnt see much difference between it and FDa
    The board version is 2.0
About the partition I did it with Partition magic and had to format and install Windows to optimize performance since unmovable system files ended up being scattered all over the hardisk. Now its good.

The ram is funny its practically nameless (Seen by everest even real temp) but physically calls itself enfinion not enfenion but I would still like to use it in my overclock
Just borrowed Cosair dominator 1024MB 1066mhz ram but wont be staying with it for long as its not mine.

I will post more soon about the ram, let me see what I can get about it.
