Thread: EP45-UD3P and Q9300 OC

Well I bumped it up 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0 watching voltage. It wasn't until 2.9 when the voltage went to 1.30. At 3.0 its at 1.30v under load it drops. Should I take the voltage down to 1.25v and try prime95? Or should I bring it down slower?

    Running 3.0 1600 FSB @ 1.30v, should I start reducing voltage? Rams running @ 480.

once you get higher than the 480 fsb your cpu voltage will need to be set higher than 1.3 not lower. For me at 500 fsb I need 1.39375.
Once you get to 500 and above your cpu /northbridge and memory will start to run hotter under load because of the higher voltages and because they are running faster.
Use core temp and maybe speedfan utilities while you are running prime 95 to check how hot your cpu/motherboard/chipset are getting.
My core 1 gets up to 64degrees c under load at 500 fsb 3.5 cpu.

The maximum fsb I can get a boot into windows at is 507 mhz.
This is a limitation of my memory.
the g skill 6400 can run at 1066 max but not on this board or maybe its the p45 chipset.
So in theory i could tweak a bit and run my pc at 505fsb/cpu 3.535 ghz/memory 1010 mhz.

As it is tho I run 24/7 at 493fsb 3.45 ghz cpu 986 mhz memory just to be safe.
You should be able to run a bit higher (cpu will anyway) because your memory is better. It depends how good your system cooling is .

Thanks for the help Kick, I am satisfied with 3.0ghz and I not going to go any higher. Now its time to focus on stability and lowering temps plus bring the ram up or lower timings. How long should I run prime? 24hrs seems a bit unnecessary and can't be good for your CPU.

I have it down to 1.25v but its only using 1.168v during prime95.
    MAX Cores 52, 55, 52, 53c

How do I get 1:1 ratio back it says 5:6 now

well if your not going to clock your cpu any higher you may as well leave your memory at 5:6.
If you bring it back to 1:1 youre going to underclock the memory to 960 mhz using 480 mhz fsb.
With 5:6 your memory is using a clock base of 480 divided by 5=96 then multiplied by 6=570.6 then running at 570.6x2 =1141mhz(I think) .
That isnt much of a memory overclock from 1066 and should be well within tolerances.
If you want to bring it back to 1:1 choose say the 333mhz bootstrap and then the 2.00x multiplier then it should run at twice the speed of whatever fsb frequency you use.

Come to think of it im a little confused, you did say your using 480 fsb yeh? 480 for me would be 3.36 ghz 480x7 on my q8200 cpu
For you it should be 3.5ghz,480x7.5 on the q9300?

If u are using 480 fsb and u didnt set the lower multiplier in bios the cpu will start working at 3.5ghz as soon as you start using prime 95.The temps wont stay as low as 52 at that speed unless your using water cooling or something ?.
    Maybe i misread the post.
Anyway I think ill make up/try n make up some screenies for my next post(s),too much typing this way !:0

Thumbs down Re: EP45-UD3P and Q9300 OC

Ahh ok so your ram is running at 960 mhz, using 5:6 the ram is using a base clock of 480 instead of 400 and then it multiplies that by 2.
Thats a long way below your rams rated speed if you pull it back to 1:1 the ram will only be working at 800 mhz ,
That seems a waste of the rams potential.
Funnily enough if your going to run that low you would be better off with my memory and you could set it to tighter timings like 4-4-4-12

    Ill swop you!

Seriously if you want to go 1:1 just do the things posted above,it will only make your system slower tho.

I'm running a Q9300 on a UD3R, I have it set to 400*7.5 at 1.175v in BIOS (1.168v in windows with LLC [load line calibration] enabled). All other voltages are set to Normal (stock), except my RAM voltage which is bumped to 1.810v, because I'm running 4*2GB sticks.

All throttling features are disabled (C1E, Speed Stepping, etc..), with LLC enabled, that's the key to low overall voltages, that and a great power supply (Enermax Modu 82+ 625w).

Oh, I'm trying to bring my ram back up now... :P I got messed up. I want to bring it back to its 1066 or "1150 if possible" max speed.

Seems like the only settings I can work with for ram speed is the:
    -MCH Freq latch
    -System mem multi
    -mem freq

Seems like the only choices I get are the 960 and way OCed.

That's when you have to drop your CPU multiplier (to obtain similar CPU speeds) and change the FSB speed to accomidate the higher RAM speed. You can probably just raise the FSB though, and get the RAM near where you want it, giving you better CPU speed as well. I had this Q9300 running 3.5ghz with only 1.3v, it's just I like to keep voltages and temps down so I can keep my all fans below 1000rpm.
