Thread: EP45-UD3P and Q9300 OC

    Default EP45-UD3P and Q9300 OC

    Hi, I have read through some great post already and I think I get the basics of OCing now. I would like some start settings. I know that AUTO is not good so what are some of the settings I need to change?

    I think 3.0 should be good.

    No help?
    CPU-Z says 1.12v on auto stock speeds
    What about CPU starting voltage 1.20v

    your cpu is close to mine ..you should get 3.7ghz on it stable if your cpu cooler is good.

    I guess I'm stuck on were to start with voltage, I know voltage is bad and the less the better. The OEM box says MAX: 1.25v. Do you want to start at max and set FSB then ease it down until it fails prime95 then bump it up a little?

    if you leave cpu volt on auto in bios and just bump up the fsb/cpu clock it will probably go higher than what you need.
    quad core intels have a max recommended 1.4v operating voltage for v long life.
    But with v droop ,if you set 1,4 in the bios it will be less than that in operation.
    the 1.25 v you mention should be fine for maybe 370-400mhz fsb ,anything above that the cpu may not work.
    Usethe settings I have in my sig if you like, if it doesnt boot up/feels to hot you can allways turn it down

    you have 1066 rated mem which is 533 mhz fsb.
    So leave the memory at standard settings .
    that would be lemme see. 2,00 times the fsb ,so if you enter in my settings it should boot up ok .The memory will actually be underclocked ,by 33x2 mhz=66

    If it boots up ok and is stable(use a test program like prime 95)
    ,then you coulld overclock the memory a bit,tho it may not be needed.
    The only thing is you cant run ddr2 memory at less than 2x fsb speed,you can try and overclock it if you want.
    Mine is 800 mhz memory and it seems 1000 mhz is as far as it will go,but since cpu wont go much above 500mhz fsb ,its not worth buying 1066mhz mem.
    My cpu cooler is a lot better than the standard intel one ,so you may ot be able to get the same speed on your 9300,i dont know.
    but 1.2 v is less than the mbrd will give your cpu on auto..1.225 is the auto voltage i think ,for my quad anyway.

    So I have to under clock it to multiplier 2.40B? I know the mem caps at 1150 I tried it. So what does the "latch" do?

    Thanks Kick!

    Edit: You know whats confusing me, the "System mem multi" MCH strapping
    x.xxA = FSB 266
    B = 333
    C = 200
    D = 400

    If I do 2.XXD I can get 1066 but what does it mean to run at 400 FSB?

    I have latch at what my cpu standard is supposed to be..333mhz .set your memory multiplier at 2.00 if your trying to get the max on your cpu.If you set it at 2.4 the fsb speed your memory might fail to boot before you reach the stable cpu limit.
    2.4 at 500mhz is 1200 mhz ,so your memory may not reach that.
    Sounds like youve been testing it already tho:0.
    I dont know on your memory but your cpu might reach 3.75ghz stable with 500mhz fsb,mine reaches 3,5..I think once we go above 500mhz fsb tho its hard to say whats good unless we have the exact same system/memory etc.
    N like i say if i had the stanard intel cpu cooler i couldnt hold that speed.mbrd is good tho!

    latch of 333 is what my standard fsb should be,yours is the same i think..the extrame intel quads use 400mhz.. but anyway if you set latch at 333 then 2.00b.set fsb frequency for cpu at say 420 to start you should be on your way..(that would mean memory at only 840.but hey u just want to see what cpu can do first :0
    gl for now Im off.
