    Default P45-DS4 + Q9550 simple O/C not SHOWING

    Hi!

To Start , for suer i must be quite missing something, but it is not that i am completely stranger to overclocking...

    My config:
    ----------------------------------------
    P45-DS4
    Q9550 C1
    2x2GB Kingston PC2-6400 800Mhz (I know i have to throw it..i will )
    Gigabyte Nvidia GTX295
    -----------------------------------------

I 've been reading today 2 office the "HOWTO: Overclock C2Q (Quads) and C2D (Duals)" and for the past 2 hours i am trying to start overclocking.

My problem is that i cant make POST show the overclocked GhZ

following the guide i go up to 400Mhz Bus which give me 3,40 having all the other settings as per guide (PCIe 100Mhz DRAM multiplier to bring DRAM freq to 800Mhz (2.00D) e.t.c)

BUT! when i reboot i get 2,83 Ghz and when Vista boots up the same thing i get from RealTemp / EasyTune6 / CPU-z..

also i notye that CORE#0 temp is always 3-5 degrees higher than others

running 3D Mark Vantage i get P18500 and Max Temps are 62/56/58/58

    Minimum temps are 43/41/46/46.

My cooling is a rather inexpensive Thermaltake TMGi1

I have done and tried various combinations that the article proposes but i am getting 2,83 whatever i do.

Any help to start would be much appreciated.

    Elias

That happnes when your PC fails to boot with you OC settings, it will revert back to normal settings.

Please fill out the settings template that you can find in many posts here!

Below is my basic BIOS config.

I tried putting vCore 1.35 to see if it is coming from there but no luck. I save but then the system cannot get past the POST.

BIOS defaults and start all over again. Could it be my crappy RAM? with my previous combination P35-DQ6 + core 2 Duo + same RAM o/c was ok....

i tried getting off all USBs and tried again, also tried to fall back to F8 Firmware but no luck. I have the latest F9.

    Any ideas?

If the RAM worked fine before at the same speed it should not be the issue, if the problem is RAM related then it's a detail in the RAM configuration.

Set the PLL voltage to 1.55V and aMCH Core to 1.3V and let me know ho it goes.

Did what you say ...no luck
didwhat you say + manual DRAM (6-6-6-18).....no luck
didwhat you say + manual DRAM (6-6-6-18) + vcore 1,30 ....no luck

I must be doing something foundamentaly wrong, but what is it?

Every time i save the settings pc goes off/on power one time and then comes back always as 2,83. I reset to optimized defaults, does the same, reboot in 2,83 and try the other set of bios settings...i hope this is correct.

I am stuck i suppose as i have tried many things and at least i should have seen somewhere a change in Ghz, but not

Any help would be greatly appreciated Nick

What PSU do you have? Maybe it can't handle your system when overl****ing.

Try higher values for tRead in advanced RAM timings (10, 11 and 12, try them all, same one for both channels always if your board wants it seperately for both channels).

Please post actual pictures of the BIOS screens with the settings in told you applied, maybe you just entered something wrong.
