    Some additional details:

Computer is a few months old, for about 2 months no restarts occured, then they began to happen randomly, and have continued to do so, without any real change in the "average time to next restart." Because this appears to be a time-dependent symptom, I initially suspected the power supply or somesuch, however I can't remember if I made any changes to the BIOS before they first started occurring...

Restarts occur in Windows XP 64-bit Edition, Fedora, Windows Safe Mode, after the drive has been reformatted with a new OS (both on Windows and Fedora). Flashed the BIOS twice, tried "optimized" and "fail safe" settings, none of which appear to have any effect. Restarts follow what is apparently a random distribution, although if the time since last restart was short, it's more likely that the next restart will happen quickly.

I've tried everything, including flashing the BIOS, taking apart the computer and re-assembling it, etc. It's extraordinarily frustrating.

Join teh frustration club. This is exactly what mine did. I initially got a rev 1.0. Worked great. One day it would not turn on. from that day forward, no dual channel mode at all for ram. I got an rev 1.1 Same issue, no dual channel mode allowed.
I think there is a quality control issue occurring at gigabyte or they got some bad memory controllers or something.

thanks! i'll try it when i get home. Quick question though, when you say "for sure" are you indicating that you think the problem WAS with my mobo settings, or are my settings just so messed up thanks to my tooling around that i could have broken my poor compy?

Hmm, well I say for sure meaning I think for sure you should be able to use them easily. Nothing is broke though that I would expect with just improper settings.

    Hi,

I'm having the same problem with my setup.

    430W Antec EarthWatts PSU

    GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX

    EVGA 512-P3-N863-TR GeForce 9600 GT 512MB

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W

    CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) TWIN2X4096-8500C5D

    2x Seagate ST3640323AS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA

    DVD-ROM and DVD-RW

I get BSOD randomly, sometimes at start up. I've cleaned everything, reinstalled XP, tried fail safe and optimal setting in BIOS. Same problem with both. Same errors with either stick of RAM. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of getting PSU tonight after work to see if that fixes it.

Also, my machine ran perfectly for about 38 days before this problem arose.

Same errors with either stick of ram? Is this one at a time both error, with what tests?

You should be using Optimized defaults not fail safe, and you will need to at least set your ram voltage to spec, then I advise you put performance enhance on standard as well. And you likely will need 1.20-1.24 MCH Voltage as well

If you think it may be your settings, post them for me and I will advise back

But ya, you are right maybe, that PSU is a little bit small so it could be partially to blame maybe?

I bought a new PSU, but haven't tried it yet. A friend told me it's probably my settings.

    Thanks again,

    John
