    I am doing my first OC using a E8400, EP45-UD3P Rev. 1.1 F9, and 2x2GB G.Skill PC28500. I have tried to get 3.6Ghz using the both the settings here and in Grishka's post. Everytime I try to start Windows 7 RC the desktop comes up but freezes during or right after the startup chime. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem before or if I need to alter the settings?

    What do you mean by "the settings here"? The ones I posted for 4.5GHz, or some other? You shall have to be more precise for any real help. Have you tested your memory separately to ensure that it is good? Memtest on Boot is best for that. Overclocking is best done in steps. 1st step is to test the rig at stock, then work your way up. Test the memory at the new settings, then the Motherboard in Windows using Intel Burn Test, OCCT, Prime 85, whatever, with the CPU multi down to take the CPU out of the equation, then test the entire system. Don't just use soemone else's settings and expect it to work every time.

    I tried the settings suggested for the 3.6Ghzz overclock. I have had the system running stable for 2 weeks with the E8400@3.0 and the ram at 1066Mhz. I have ran Prime95 several times with load core temps topping out around 50C, idle is around 31C.

    I am a newbe to OC & this exact mobo-ram-processor...
    I followed the OC details and got the rig to boot right up - thanks guys..

    However - I see 2 thing which bother me. one - the ram speed in CPU-Z still shows 533, not 1066 (although the bios indicated 1066), why?

    Also - I use Freezer pro -7 and still my temps are 39 idle and 50 load, is this normal?

    Last thing, I notice you all disable USB discovery - I need that since I use external drives and thumb Drives regularly. why disable the USB discovery?

    I'll appreciate the help

    CPU-Z reports MHz, memory is Double Data Rate, so 533 X 2 = 1066.

    What are you using to load the CPU?

    USB Discovery? What motherboard? Mine is USB Storage, maybe same thing? I don't know.

    What are you using to load the CPU?

    USB Discovery? What motherboard? Mine is USB Storage, maybe same thing? I don't know.

    My mobo is UD3R - and you're right USB Storage - what's that for?

    Most importantly - the Temps - all I used to 'load the CPU' was Flight Sim x... not much (I think).... also, I used PC Wizard to benchmark the system - same thing - temps run up to 50+. Also it idles at 39 - is that the norm?

    I need to know if that's normal since I used the thermal pad which was on the Freezer pro, maybe I should use my silver thermal past instead??

    One more thing,
    you all report 1:1 FSB:DRAM ratio mine is 3:4... why? what does it represent?

    USB Storage enabled is needed to boot from a USB Stick. I don't think it is needed for anything else.

    1:1 is the emory multiplier, as is 3:4. In the BIOS, 1:1 is 2.00. Read this thread
