    Default Ep45 DS3R will not post on random occasions

    Hi ya all, I've tried to solve my problem on my own but just haven't got any more ideas what to do My board will not post sometimes, I mean when I push the button the lights come up and the fans work at maximum speed, which is odd btw, but theres no video and the hdd dont turns on, I have to clear the cmos then and it will work good for few days. Already had the board rma and they have replaced bios chip in it, so I assume it shouldnt be the board itself ? I start to think that it might be power supply, but dont know if im right. If anyone is willing to help I will be grateful.

    Here are my specs:
    E6850
    GA EP45 DS3R F10
    GEIL EVO 2 x 2 GB 800 (already tried with ocz memory and the same thing happens)
    OCZ GAMEXSTREAM 600W
    ATI 4870
    SEAGATE 500 GB

    Have u tried flash it to the last bios ver?

    Already got f10, gigabyte have done it when I've send them the board for RMA.

    Ok, after a lot of searching in this forum I've tried to do few things:

    1. took out the mobo out of the case,
    2. assembled it outside,
    3. tried ram separately, vga etc.
    4. flashed the bios again to F10

    and it didn't help a lot :) but I've noticed a strange thing, once I power off the PC and will switch off the PSU with the button at the back and let it sit for a while it will boot up normally, otherwise no post and all leds lit, fans running at maximum lol

    Is it the PSU fault or MB ?

    Please HELP :)

    What settings are you using? Could be a setting issue, especially if you are using all Auto's

    And can you please link your ram or provide the Model #

    Update*

    I've noticed another strange thing, when I clear the cmos and then press the power button it will boot up normally, then I go into bios to load optimised defaults (as I read always to do that after clearing the cmos), then the pc shuts down to save settings and when it supposed to boot up again, it goes into that strange state. So I assume it must be something with the settings, can I try manually changing them instead of loading optimised defaults ? Or thats not good for the mobo ?

    Try this with the 2x2GB GeIL and see if you have any better luck >>>

    Ohh to answer you, yes alot of them you can change manually without a issue. Timings of course, you can try any and all. Voltages, not so much. Leave all Ref voltages on Auto, you can try a bit with vcore and Vtt if you like, and MCH Core voltage as well as I have noted. Timings wont hurt your board or ram at all, they will just work or not. Voltages of course can if you use to much, and will fail if you use to little

    Have you memtested this ram to be sure it is not faulty? If not, please do one stick at a time for 5 passes with the latest Memtest86+ >>
    Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

    Do this test after installing only one stick of ram and loading and applying optimized defaults and then set Performance Enhance to standard, be sure your memory is running at 800 Mhz (You can set 2.40B memory multi if you need to) and then set ONLY the ram voltage everything else should be on stock/auto
