    Default ep45-ud3p & e5200. Need help for 3.7GHz

    Hi there,
    I need some help in trying to stabilize my e5200@3.7 gigs
    So far max load temps are about 64C according to real temp 3.0.
    I can get it stable if i pump up the volts to say 1.3, but then my core temps start to hot close to 70C's.
    I was wondering if i could do something else that would get me stable and keep my current core voltages.


    Games so far seem allright, however i get a CTD after maybe 2 or 3 hours of crysis. im only failing prime or orthos as of right now. see attachment

    Then please also give me your full exact settings you are using, sounds like you might need a better cooler, but lets see as you may just have some voltages in Auto that should not be

    You really should enable the CPU Thermal monitor. Just in case.... it needs "help".

    btw, i also have load line calibration turned on, and after some research in all probability it causes massive voltage spikes especially on 45nm cpu's when turned on whenever the cpu transitions from a heavy load to a light load and vice versa.
    However, disabling it causes every application to crash. Do we have anyone from Gigabyte to give us some official comment?

    Re: LLC and other settings, Gigabyte provides (us all) the tools to OC, but they won't provide support advice, and they shouldn't be expected to. Their support advice is confined to successfully running the products at default settings. I don't see anything wrong with that. LLC at lower core voltages is probably a good thing but beyond a certain point, best to disable it (as Anandtech showed).

    Re your OC; you've plenty of headroom with Vcore. You might give it some more juice to support that OC (@3.7Ghz). Also, you're not getting the best RAM performance running at such a low frequency. 1:1 isn't optimal in that setup.

    And fwiw, although I do keep EIST and C1E enabled (most of the time), your leaving them on will reduce the maximum performance of the OC. You might consider disabling them.

    Personally, with your chip, I'd be happy with a lessor overclock but, you've a lot of room to adjust Vcore and other settings. I'd take it one or two more steps with the VTT. The Northbridge core at default isn't helping you either. You have some room there too. Good luck with it.

    hi there,
    thanks for the help so far. didnt know EIST and C1E would affect the stability of the overclock, but will disable them to see if it helps.
    Also, i was hoping to get it stable without pumping more juice, as it gets close to 70C's according to Real Temp 3.0 when i use around 1.3 volts.
    problem is ambient temps where i live are around 35-38Celcius on average.

    Is 1:1 not optimal for RAM? What would you recommend then?
    5:4? Would there be much performance gains?

    For the northbridge, i left it at stock as im fairly sure it should be able to handle 296 Mhz FSB at stock. But i'll try bumping it up a notch.
    Also, looks like i got a fairly decent chip. Stock 2.5ghz to 3.7Ghz is pretty nice..if i can get it stable enough that is

    You're welcome. I'm not so certain I'm "helping" you. :) In all honesty, I'm no expert (far from it), and I'd defer to Lsdmeasap, Nickel020 or anyone else more knowledgeable any day. The point is; you need a basic understanding of what you're doing and a good "feel" for your system. It helps to read a lot. :) and experiment. To follow other peoples settings or reco's blindly isn't the best way to learn. Maybe a good starting point though.

    You've already increased the Vtt, you may need to go a bit more. It may help to do the same with the MCH core (but how much I can't say). Same goes for the CPU and PCI E. clock drives - raising their amplitude to 1000mV, may help you. Increasing these other voltage settings may allow less Vcore, but you need to experiment and find what works.

    It's best to run your memory as close to it's rated frequency as you can. Strap it as you need to. Start with looser timings and tighten them up later. 1:1 FSB to DRAM isn't necessarily optimal.

    You don't mention what type of CPU cooling you're using, and improving that could go a long way towards lowering your temps (I'm sure you know this).

    It does seem you have a good chip. It'll probably stay that way if you don't put silly voltages into it. If your temps get near the 70's(C), with the juice you need to maintain that high an overclock, well... it's your call. But (you probably already know) you don't need a 1.2Ghz OC. If you're stable at 3.5Ghz with reasonable voltages and temps - that's something to be happy with, at least that's the way I see it.

    Just want to finish by mentioning that while I "respect" whatever anyone wants or needs to do with their own system. I've been there and done that. When i pushed a stable OC to 3.8Ghz and higher the load temps were also approaching 70c, and it's nice to know what the chip can do but I don't want to buy another so soon. For my own needs, (like I mentioned in another post)... now I run a balance of performance and stability and low power and couldn't be happier with the systems overall performance. E7400 (2.8Ghz) @3.36 w/voltage set to Normal, idles at 1.056V. RAM @ 3:5, (1066) 5-5-5-15 PL 5. and a CPU OC of 560Mhz. Idles at 32c full sustained load at 56c. For me, less is more.
