    Hi. I am a noob to overclocking. Can someone suggest some stable settings and where to go from there?

    Yes.. I'm reviving my 4 year old thread..

    I still can not get this system stable! It still BSOD quite often which is very annoying. I am giving one last ditch effort before I scrap this motherboard.

    I have used factory defaults and many recommended OC settings.

    Since this time...
    I have replaced the motherboard once.
    Replaced the Patriot memory once.
    Upgraded to Windows 7 64 Ultimate.

    Added a Corsair H60 water cooler (CPU was running at 60C for years!).
    Upgraded to better memory.. G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B (People said that G.SKILL memory worked better with this board).

    My goal is to get this system stable first... without overclocking.. Any ideas?

    The only changes if I use 4.0 and not 4.2/3 is CPU Vcore down to 1.36250 (MCH might be able to be lowered with a lesser FSB as well) and these setups both seem to be stable for me.

    This almost 90 page long thread GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB has TONS of information if you want to read D-an-W's journey of OCing his setup.

    The only changes if I use 4.0 and not 4.2/3 is CPU Vcore down to 1.36250 (MCH might be able to be lowered with a lesser FSB as well) and these setups both seem to be stable for me.

    This almost 90 page long thread GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB has TONS of information if you want to read D-an-W's journey of OCing his setup.
    I tried these settings and it wouldn't even boot into Windows. Only difference was I couldn't set the MCH Reference to .700V because CPU Term was set to 1.32 (the closest was .692 I think).

    I followed the settings for basic stock settings (no overclocking) and was still not able to get a stable system. It will boot into Windows but apps will just not run properly.

    This doesn't tell us anything.
    When you have any problems or issues, we need specific details, such as system BSOD with error code, system froze, system rebooted while running program XYZ, etc.

    We aren't mind readers.

    Have you created a system backup image of your boot partition? If yes, which program created the backup?
    Have you created a windows repair CD/DVD?
    It's possible that the windows partition might get corrupted while you are overclocking.
    Restoring from a backup image will take about 10 minutes.
    Rebuilding your o/s and programs will take a lot longer.

    Don't get hung up on the details, just get a general grasp of the higher level concepts.

    Even if you and KayossZero or any other user have identical systems, there is no way that you can copy their bios settings and have your system be as stable as theirs.

    Post a copy of your current stock bios settings by filling in a copy of the bios template and post your template.
    Did you load Optimized Bios settings before making the most recent changes to run your system at stock speeds?
    Try booting your system with only one memory module installed in the first memory slot, DDR2_1.
    See if your system is stable enough to follow step #4 in http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post295784 to post a cropped screen-screenshot in your next post. The information in the screen-shot will help verify the information you post in your bios template.

    We need to get your system stable at stock speeds before doing any overclocking.
    Briefly check out Dans o/c thread where he did a superb job with posting bios settings, screen-shots, and described all problems in detail.

    If you want to be spoon fed with bios settings that might be stable with some tweaking, someone else will need to help you.
    If you want to learn overclocking basics, I can help you along with other forum members.

    this x1000... 2 CPU's from the same batch both in the same motherboard (one after the other) might not run the same settings... Use other people's numbers as limits/ballpark... your chip might need 2.3v of vcore.... (don't do that you will blow your CPU)...

    but you need to walk before you can run and right now you can't even stand up.

    Please explain your definition of "It will boot into Windows but apps will just not run properly"... is it stuttering? hard locking? giving you a BSOD (blue screen of death)... does the blue screen come up and go away immediately and re-boots?

    you need to be a little more specific. then we can look at helping...
