    Default EP45-UD3P Random Freezes

    I have an EP45-UD3P, Q6600 @ 3.6, and 8GB of GeIL Black Dragon RAM. Newegg.com - GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

This setup randomly freezes on me. It also does it at stock speeds. It sometime runs for days with no issues, sometimes for minutes. I am starting to run out of idea, so I thought maybe someone else might spot what I am missing here. Settings are as follows:

fast reply..1.clock it more..2.bump ram voltage 3.bump cpu voltage4. use turbo performance and 2:00B strap.5 bump mch volts a little.

Thanks for the reply. What is a good recommended MCH Core voltage for 8GB of RAM on this board? (4x2GB)

Maybe 1.24-1.34, Some need more some less. It depends on your ram speed, timings, FSB, ect. I think you should add some Vtt as well, so your MCH Ref increases, but you would likely need a bit more anyway to keep that overclock stable. Try this out, if you think your vcore is stable as is >>

    CPU Termination…..... 1.200V.......: 1.3-1.5
    CPU PLL…………………....1.500V.......: 1.55-1.62V

For 8GB of ram you may need a higher tRFC as well, maybe 72-88

I flashed the F9a beta BIOS and it seems to have helped. I left some of the settings at default to see what they would set. vCore is at 1.45 and I left LLC off this time. It shows at 1.392 in Windows, so I can live with that. CPU Termination is at 1.3, MCH Core seems low at 1.2, and tRFC also seems low at 52, but it hasn't frozen since I updated it, so I'll give it a couple more days before I call it fixed. The RAID portion of the BIOS boots much faster now. I am liking the F9a quite a bit at this point. If it gives me any trouble I'll bump the tRFC but I'm hoping it's good. Thanks for the help.

Nice to hear! Ya, I am waiting to see a the RAID/AHCI update added into the board I am using

You got the right Idea, raise tRFC if you see errors (I suspect you might as that is low for sure for 8GB) and maybe MCH Voltage up or down.

Hey, you do know what you see in the BIOS for Auto is not always what it used right? It can be what is in use right then in the BIOS or DOS, or what has been used in the past, not always what you get in windows if Auto is used.

You can check what tRFC you are getting in windows with Everest (Chipset, then NB/P45, then look for tRFC -Row Refresh Cycle Time- in the bottom area or Memset >>

I checked the tRFC with Memset and it does indeed show 52. But the thing is still running good another day later. I'm going to leave it unless a problem comes up. I updated to the F9b BIOS last night and it is still running good.
