Don't know if updating BIOS willl help it, but updating BIOS is a risky procedure, and giving the situation, even more.
You must not do it until you are sure your settings are stable and won't lock up.

Yeah that is what I thaught, I had a look at the F7 Bios upate (the next one along from mine) and all it mentioned that it did was a CPU Microcode update for pacific newer processors, it didn't mention anything about added Memory support etc. Not sure if it will help any then?

Well I haven't tested the new settings in games yet, but when they hard-locked previously on the 1066 setting it was the same Hard-Lock that Memtest did when testing the memory. Now that Memtest is passing with flying colors on the slower 800 setting I am hoping that will translate into my gaming.

How much difference will I notice between the 800 and 1066 modes, will it just be slower loading in games or not really noticeable?

    Thanks!

    Thanks!
Not noticeable to the human eye :-)
Memory bendwidth benchmarks may show difference but for real life use the difference is very minor if there is any at all.

Save a BIOS profile if you have that option in BIOS, so you can load it in case BIOS is cleared for some reason.

Well I am not too worried about it then, I just wish I was told about this compatibility thing when I bought my memory :( Would have just bought DDR2 800 Ram if that was the case! I can't believe all the trouble I had to go through just to find this out, a well known manufacturer like Gigabyte should support a wide variety of different Rams especially since I have tried 2 good brands in Kingston and Corsair! I don't think I will be buying Gigabyte again :(

Do all four memory modules have the same version number?

I'm running 8GB of 1066 memory in my P35 system with Cas4 settings at 874MHz.
My real world performance is identical to running with Cas5 settings at 1066MHz or slightly higher.
Naturally my synthetic memory benchmark scores are somewhat higher at 1066MHz speeds.

Try with optimized defaults loaded, DDR Over Voltage +0.2 - +0.3, MCH OverVoltage +0.1 - +0.3.
If having 8GB is your concern I wouldn't even worry about CAS 4, DDR-800 with CAS 5 would be fine.
